Im a vector designer and i have portfolio on shutter. I sell 5000 images in a month. Somebody are talking about direct selling in the stock sector. At the same time Im looking designers's websites what they are selling their drawings. There is only around 1-5 download per image in the direct websites. This is nothing.
I wanna ask you Can you earn money with direct websites? Can I increase my sellings in this way? How buyers find sellers with direct selling? Or selling direct now is a baby and we have to wait at least 3 years. Do you think like this?

Can you make money selling your own files? Yes. Will you? I don't know. All you can do is try it and see if it works for you. It's really hard to predict how anyone will do.

I understand you make money with direct, ok but i wonder How is ratio according your shutterstock etc. sellings. Can anybody make same ratio by direct sellings according to shutterstock, istock etc. 5-10 downloads are nothing in a month as you can appreciate.

Cory is a master in that area, I believe there isn't a better person to help you out (I would do consultations if I was him  ;D), that said my feeling is that it is almost an impossible task unless you work very hard (portfolio, buyers, seo, etc)

go figure why most new agencies fail with millions of pictures

Actually, I think 5-10 downloads per month is a pretty good start for a new site. If you are making $10-$20 per download, those can add up fast. You could quickly cover your start-up costs and start earning money.

It would be hard to expect the same quantity of downloads you get on a larger site to start out. Unless you are Yuri, most of us don't have a set of existing customers. You have to get them the old fashioned (or is it new fashioned way), Google and other search engines.

It takes time to build traffic, and traffic equals customers. I'm definitely not an SEO or site building expert though, so I'm sure other people can build traffic a lot quicker than me.

If you have 5000 files, I think it would be a very practical investment. I agree it will be a lot of work, but why wait until you have 10,000 files?  It should surely lead to freelance work also.
