I'm increasingly getting those 0.25$ footage sales on Shutterstock. In fact it applies to most footage sales these days. What's happening and where is this going?

There's a reason why many of us no longer sell our work through Shitterstock. Maybe you've just discovered it?

They first started last year. In one month I had a whopping 350+ clip downloads for 25c. But I also noticed that they were the same dozen or so clips, that were very old ones, definitely not my best videos, and had no sales in a long, long time.  They were mainly finance & accounting clips, and some food ingredient subjects. (I have over 3,000 videos in my port).

After the initial shock, I resigned myself to the fact that they were probably incremental sales that I wouldn't have earned otherwise. On the upside, I had an additional $80+ that I probably wouldn't have earned otherwise, and because of the high number of DLs they pushed me up into the next video level.

Also, because of the high number of downloads, they also got very high search placement, and some later started selling for regular prices.

They didn't seem to interfere with my other video sales and none of my better high-performing videos sold for that price. So, I stopped worrying about it. I figured it was just another one of SS's 'special deals', and equal to 10c for photos. You can't go any lower.

The same thing is starting to happen to me again on SS, but not as many DLs this time.

Talking about Shitterstock - what happened to our StockCoalition?

No updates for ages.

I have not had a video clip sale with $0.25 yet.
The lowest sale brought about $0.90.
And the highest sale brought $82.50

I have only had videos on AS and SS and on P5 since August 2021.
In comparison, SS is 1st with $$ and downloads, AS has 2nd place just behind and P5 has 3rd place.
For me, there is no reason to worry about low sales on SS yet.Still, I'm a bit depressed at the moment because of the slow start at SS this year.

The chart shows all video sales in the last year. I also have another older P5 Exclusiv account, but its sales are of course not included in the chart.

Below is the reason why some of us are still selling our work through SS.
Maybe you could've discovered it?

Yep, maybe I could have, if I'd stuck around long enough.

That said, I was a contributor to SS for at least 12 years, and never once did I get a single sale at $200.

All snark aside, I have no regrets about leaving Shitterstock. You guys are welcome to it.

At first I thought there's no point to add my opinion, as we all feel about the same with low sales, but then I changed my mind. I get a couple of video sales a week there. January 2020 started with sales in the range of 19 to 23 dollars. January 2021 with sales from 0.26 to 0.58. January 2022 with 1.05 to 1.49. In every of the last three years earnings per video got better for me after March,  giving sales of $44 or $85. I also had a one time sale of $603.30. Yes, over 600 for editorial content. What's my point? My average per sold video dropped about $7 in the last years but the total increases. That's all I care, what I pocket, not the statistics. True, I don't like the sub dollar sales but if I opted out I would miss the 44 to 85 ones from customers that only shop from one agency. Now, If I only earned the 0.25 sales that would change things a lot!

Thank you for your kind replies.

I counted my sales of a certain time span. The average was 6.8$ per sale which is much lower than it used to be 2 years ago, when it was 18.4$. Last year was similar to now. From 45 sales 13 were the 0.25$ ones. I know I said it was more than that, but I was mistaken. There are many under 3 dollars, though. The highest one was 35$.

I could say all is good as long as I sell more files, but the question is: will the customers stop paying more at other places because of Shutterstock or not?

more likely the other places will lower prices to compete with SS.
