Title: 0.25 USD per footage on SS
Post by: pfiverzv on June 28, 2021, 12:04
The month is not yet ended, and I have over 100 sales of footage at price 0.25 USD. What have I done wrong :)?

And you are happy to sell your footages at that price? That's almost the same as giving them away for free.

You accepted SS's new scheme to pay only a percentage with maybe a tiny minimum (is there even a minimum for footage, or is it ten cents too?).

That's really horrible, more humiliating than to be a slave.

I didn't accept any new scheme, not sure how I ended up with this new "payment" per footage. Long story short, if last years SS was paying decent, from a minimum of 20-25 USD per sale, now we will have literally 100 footage sold for getting that 25 dollars.
Maybe next year 0.25 per footage will be luxury  :(  >:(  don't see a way to go back to good old payments times

I'm so sorry pfiverzv, I feel your pain.

I'm seeing the same thing on my account with Shutterstock and it's really depressing.  I'm still waiting for adobe to replace Shutterstock when it comes to video sales, but unfortunately this won't happen anytime soon.  I've been uploading a lot less video lately,  just can't justify the cost vs reward from it at those prices.

stay safe

You didn't deleted your SS potfolio. That's what you did wrong.

And you better submit nothing less than top high quality clips or the great Shutterstock will reject your unworthy-of-25-cent submission.

I try to focus only on the positive side of things: thanks to those multiple sales I am close to reaching level 5, I have never been able to before. On the other hand, I don't quite understand why, but all 0.25 sales are always from the same videos, sometimes the same video is sold 10 times for (0.25) on the same day. Strange! But who gives a shi_t.

Hi I have the same, about 80 sales of the same video for 25 cents the last few days
Seems a bit odd. Is it a free sale or something? It's not a popular or great video, probably only sold it a few times over the last few years.

Oh you mean because salves didn't voluntarily upload their work to agencies, and didn't have a choice? Yeah, I'd agree, dumb comment.  ;D

Willing victims have a choice, they can quit or leave, slaves didn't have that option.

For example, I deleted all my video on SS. Problem solved.

Leaving SS and deleting your entire port is a personal decision that depends on several factors, I respect the people who have considered that it was the best for them, but in no way can these people pretend to judge others based on their decisions . In my case, I still do quite well in SS, despite those 0.25 sales, I usually have sales for 12, 20, 22 dollars, even yesterday, two sales for 120, so, it would be silly to erase everything the time invested.
Greetings!

But you aren't worse then a slave, you made your own choice. Don't judge others who decided that deleting everything is their answer. Personal decision

Hadnt bothered checking earnings for a few weeks but finally did.

Seems they've introduced some amazing new package towards the end of last month.
After that date, all my video "sales" became $0.25.

So far in August 5 video sales in total, every one $0.25.

For comparison the "old" pre changes RPD was $20.  Up until last month the RPD for video post changes was $10.
For the last 2 weeks its been $0.25...

Wow. Just wow.

So I gotta ask: are you laughing all the way to the bank or crying into your beer?

Well at this rate it'll be another week or so before i can afford a beer to cry into.

Very sudden change looking back through my daily figures, its as if they switched on some new package on a specific date. (Specifically Jul 15th for me)

Won't buy much where I live.  :(

Think of what 300 video sales would have brought in not long ago.

How many days last a grocery buy $75 for a family of 2 adult people ? In my country Venezuela 1 week last a grocery buy $75, in grocery stores with cheaper prices.

Obviously, the cost of a week's worth of food depends on what you buy. The cost of living in different countries is very different. And some people insist on expensive foods, while others can eat for much less money. So it's very difficult to generalize.

I buy groceries just for myself, and in overlapping trips to the store. I don't buy food one week at a time. But I have a strong feeling that $75 for 2 adults would last less than 1/2 a week.

Although the RPD for video is laughable nowadays, you should into account that those videos probably wouldn't have sold 300 times for $20 a piece.
But in terms of video becoming a cheap subscription commodity, that path has indeed been set into motion.

I moved from stills to video because prices were higher, now footage prices are going the same way as stills - downwards.

Just two years ago I was hoping to move into the 4K video but at these prices I no longer submit to SS. Only Pond 5 and Adobe now...
