Title: 39˘ SOD
Post by: Shelma1 on June 23, 2017, 06:35
One whole extra penny for a single sale rather than a subscription sale. Yay.

SS continues its sad decline.

Yeah, those are annoying.

Lately I have tons of those under $1 SODs. 0.81$, 0,53$, 0.69$..... And I just * hate it. I see SOD sale and go check with high hopes, its a decent amount of $ and then I see 0,51$ or sth. similar. Ridicilous.

Sadly, that attitude among some uploaders is what's fuelling the race to the bottom for prices.

If there was something we could do to combat lower prices, I suspect we would. I'm not sure that you could get the majority of contributors to agree on any remedy.

Market forces are too great, pushing prices increasingly lower, but what contributors can and should do is to submit premium images to midstock agencies as RM.

As for run of the mill RF images, perhaps those quarters will add up to enough to pay for a few meals at the end of the month.

when the monkey cheers for the peanuts, it's time to move on. or as neil young says Better to burn out than to fade away.
i consider myself a 4by5 view camera being replaced by an instamatic, so i decided to leave my portfolio unattended and do better things with my life (such as bask in the sun with a pina colado on the beach) than to waste my time checking in to sh*tterstock to see that i finally made enough to buy a stick of shishkebab to sh*ve up my you know where.

not worth the trouble. let the monkey scramble for the peanuts, and the ruggamuffins fight over the crumbs falling off the table .
no scavenger code for me. the days are gone.

I don't know about you guys but I'm having a good month with 5 extended license downloads, including a $84 one (and my fair share of SOD crap).

I wrote an article about these extended license downloads yesterday, including showing you which images they were and some tips:

Cheer up and make the best of this game, there's light at the end of the microstock tunnel.

Funnily enough, these past 3 days have been good for me on SS. Only one enhanced (for $20) but three singles for $27, $60 and $75.

If we're making much less with SOD sales, aren't SS making much less as well?  It's sad to see SS going the same way as istock.  Hope I don't end up removing my portfolio with them but that's looking more likely than I ever thought it would.

Anyone remember Dollar Photo Club?

Enough people took action to get that crap taken down.  It also lead to Fotolia giving up and selling themselves to Adobe

Your tip

"Submit your images at the highest resolution possible! This will make it easier for buyers to want to use that image for 500k+ reproductions. Smaller resolution images just won’t cut it."

And SS just loves to reject full size for being out of focus...  ;D

True, it's a trade-off. If it looks marginally soft best not to export in full-size.
