Title: 5c payrise but with conditions
Post by: CJPhoto on April 23, 2007, 16:27
There was a 5c payrise as most expected but it only applies to those with over $500 in sales.

Very sneaky but I guess rewarding the good supplies is a good think. Kind of like the different cannisters/badges at istock/fotolia.

Read about it here:

Good news for me -- I make the cut so an extra .05 for me.  I'm working on my first flame/etc. on all the other sites so it's great to already have make it here.  Thanks for posting the news and the link.

Yes this makes sense - all the agencies have to do something to reward and retain the best and most prolific photographers; this is just a further example of trying to cut down on the huge numbers of occasional submitters and place an increased focus on those who actually generate the sales.

As with most businesses, 80% of the sales are probably generated by 20% of the contributors.  In microstock it might even be 90/10.

I think it is quite fair because I think  SS is  the fastes site where your efforts rewarded.so it shouldn't take so long  to reach the limit for one who uploads continually(or has a normal folio above 100images)

I am very happy with my 5 cent increase (20%, and 33% more than IS pays, is great).

But if SS is going to stratify, then how about 35 cents for people who have made over $1000, and 40 cents for those with more than $2000 in sales?

I think they are rewarding their steady producers. I think they have a lot of people with small portfolios and low sales that will never be steady long-term producers.

I don't think it's a fair comparison, as the average earnings in IS are high above the minimum.

I am just over halfway. Will be good from then on. You used to need 400 sales a month for a payout, so this would make it a lot easier.

Only 153 sales so far this month so no chance.

I obviously don't have the stats to be sure, but with a subscription model this may not be economic for SS to do.

Their income per image/month is not as simple to calculate as a non-subscription model, and as per Jon's post on SS said a while ago, they had to wait to see what effect the price rise at their end had before they could transfer that to a payrise for us...

I think it would be nice to have incremental payments for more succesful members, but it shouldn't be at the expense of the site going broke.

If you've got a large, high quality portfolio on SS you would be doing OK at $0.25, a 20% payrise is pretty good if you compare it to the CPI in most countries...

Cheers, Me.

I'm nowhere near that figure yet, and if this months sales are anything to go by, there will be another payrise before I get there.

I can understand the reasoning behind it, and it must be great news for the high earners there, so no sour grapes from me, I'll just have to work my butt off trying to get more quality images on line there. (well and eveywhere else too)

That's great news, and I don't think it's sneaky at all. As someone said in this thread, probably 80% of sales are generated by 20% of the contributors. So, it makes sense to reward the top sellers whilst encourage the others to aim high. Much better than a canister next to your name.

That 80%-20% figure is extraordinary. It applies in so many fields. Check your own personal portfolio. I bet you'll find something like 80% of your sales coming from 20% of your images.

I'm smiling.  :) SS is the one site I have no complaints about. It just keeps getting better.
