Title: 85,148 new photos added in the past week
Post by: Peter on June 03, 2009, 04:51
Come on! Everybody talks they are going to delete portfolios, stop uploading... bla bla bla...

And reality is: never more images has been added to SS than last week, LOL. What is next? Every month, 1 more million of images. I think SS should really put some upload limit. Seriosly.

I have not uploaded last week, must have been all the Americans :)
I do not think they should introduce upload limits, they should just reject much more. They accept so many crappy images... like isolated vegetables and fruit, come on  ;) :D

True enough. There's a lot of hot air but little actual action regarding the tax situation.

What upload limits would you suggest and for who? Yuri uploaded over 2000 new images last month for example __ would you turn his stuff down and risk the buyers of his stuff buying their subscription elsewhere?

Totally agree, they seem to accept anything as long as it passes technical standards, they should look at the actually image, I see so many images there that will never ever sell. It just clogs the system up, however all these sites seem to be in a war with who can get the most in their database irrelevant of the sales potential.

You know, I also noticed that today, and I think people (in anger attack they had) didn't realise that earnings SS brings can be still very high-even with tax. We have a proverb that describes this situation very well: "A dog that barks, doesn't bite". And I think this is situation at SS-a lot of threats but no action.

Well, this goes to show you: for every person who deletes their portfolio and never uploads again, there are an unlimited supply of new contributors to come in and fill the void.

This is what is going to end up killing the micro business, IMHO. The agencies know that they have incredible power, and they will be able to do what they want without much fear of reduced uploads from contributors.

And those were my first isolations. I thought they were great. Nuts.

I presumed the super fast review times were because people had stopped uploading.  With so many people saying they were going to stop uploads, it should make some difference.  Perhaps the number of images uploaded in the last week is wrong?

I think it is wrong, I took a screenshot on 29th May, around the time all this came out, just out of curiousity to see how many images they would/could lose, and the numbers don't add up for me..

Must be fake somehow. There were so many people promising not to upload. And I'm sure changing their mind would have taken longer! Well at least I kept my promise. I did not upload!

At least the numbers look a little odd considering what happened...

Well this is not true anymore with this new 30% taxes. This will be (or should be) written on the front page - it is not 0.25$ anymore it is ).19 or whatever.
New contributors are the ones who keep agencies alive. Because, at the beginning  they bring in portfolios they were building for months or years. But, most of them can not or do not want to work hard and upload large amount of pictures at regular basis, and that is it, they stop uploading or do it from time to time. But, there are new contributors all the time. Fresh meat, fresh pictures. And if new contributors stop coming in, SS will have serious problem.

Best business is on contributors who never reach payouts  ;D

of course you be cynical (or conspirancy theory :)) and say that a great many people are going to look athe weeks acceptance rate and so if you eased the rejection rate then falling uploads aren't noticed or you could ease the rejection rate for a couple of weeks to help appease things so more people are happy :)

or of course it could just be a lot of people uploaded stuff :)

The answer is simple. It's in acceptance rate. If reviewers accept almost all photos, the number of added photos can be two times bigger than usual. So, maybe only half of contributors added their images, but they were almost all accepted.
