Just came up with this one because someone posted their huge collection (impressive!) total and it made me wonder. Poll runs for 120 days. Take this data and look on the right, $100 a month average income for SS. Maybe it will show what people need to get up to or have a steady return. (maybe not?)  ???

You can see the results after you vote.

Edit: Yes I understand the number is just a number! Everyone can stop pointing out that "size doesn't matter".  :) If anyone has hammered that it's what the photos and images are of, not how many, that makes for sales, it's been me.

The question came up for a few reasons. One is just wondering about the numbers on the right. Second in another area, people have been asking Leaf to add portfolio numbers for people, even the anonymous, so they can tell if that person is reliable. Third the people on this forum, time after time, have represented the top 4% of all microstock image sellers. So when someone new sees, "oh wow, I can make money just selling my snapshots" they should be aware that some people have 5,000-10,000 images and worked long hard years to get to that point.

I'm looking for the average number of images that members here have on SS, nothing deeper than that. When it's closed Dec. 31st, hopefully we'll see what the top 5% of microstock artists have for sale, on the top site. It's a rough representative value.

Also it's nice to see how many people don't participate on SS, including exclusives elsewhere. Thanks!

The 100 on the right doesn't mean average royaties in $$. It's the benchmark for the agency which generates the most income for the photographers, on average. I read the values as percentage, ie: istock currently makes the average MSG poll taker 55,6% from what SS does.

Just read the thread where the base is an imaginary number and SS was the base before.

Hey Leaf, why not use dollars, that would make some logical sense. (yeah I know dollars and sense...)

So we are looking at percentages of sites relative to the base number and each other. HUH?

It could be $500 for SS and $250 for IS, or it could be people average $50 on SS and $25 on IS. Just a number with no value?

What's wrong with real dollars and cents numbers?

Well i probably have more than you! ;D

Nice to really go out on a limb with that prediction.  ;) Yeah, people who started in January 2012 have more images than me.

No excuses, but there are two factors working at this time.

1) Summer, I don't shoot Micro. Fall I watch football. (that's all one) The four images I have submitted since about April have all been refused. Darn I suck at this! Here I thought I had a nice shot, good colors, good subject, marketable idea. "lighting"

2) What I have found interesting and with sales potential, has been blocked and banned. And I don't mean the crappy postage stamp experiment. Stamps don't sell! (before someone asks again) It was an idea, people had asked, some other people had some up there, and I wanted 100 to give them a fair test. The results are in, waste of time. And I was selective, picked transportation and what I thought would be interesting subjects.

On the upside: Editorial is now making a come back after that block for "professional sports" that was active for many months. Maybe in January if I get off my duff. They aren't best sellers but if the goal is "I have ####" images, then I suppose I can upload more.

Thanks to everyone who have been answering, I always wondered what kind of numbers people had live on SS.

I need some IS exclusives to drop in and click, No Not Here.

I is not about the number of pictures. It is about 2 other things.

1.. Salesworthyness of your pictures searched by most popular on the first page.
2.. Salesworthyness of your pictures searched by newest first on the first page.

The number in your port, doesnt matter unless they are diverse, the more diverse, the more they matter. It has to do with keywords, if all your pictures are business women with headphones and your keywords are the same, then its only the quality of those floating into your newest first, that matters.

So true. But the question was just because some people equate "how many photos" with some kind of status. Also someone joined the forum with 12,000 images on SS and it made me wonder?

I dont think "how many photos" you have equates to any kind of 'status'. I have over 18,000 with Shutterstock yet not many people even know who I am.

When I replied to this thread first time, I had 1783 images online according to shutterstock count.
Then I uploaded 10-12 more, and now I have 1766.

SO! something is not working well.
Wonder what happened? Does it count backwards or what?

Now that's funny!  :D

The numbers of your portfolio are completely off on SS. I have 3 different numbers in three different places on the site. The only number that is correct is the number that shows on the contributors home page right next to the map of the world.

I think this russian site gets all the data from Shutterstock pretty accurately and they also have a graph showing more or less what you're asking here.

Thanks.
The Russian version has the 'filter by content' drop down menu, which lets you show only people with photos or illustrations. Very useful in my opinion.

Africa Studio 116877 is quite impressive. Funny what pops up when you look around. I never would have found this one. Thanks!

Many different names, it's an agency or group.
