I casually opened Shutterstock today, and it's very upsetting to see that they just don't care. Sometimes the same clip is shown 4-5 times on the same page. How is it that their bot doesn't catch this, but they're very strict about similarities when you upload:

Does anyone know if Shutterstock's moderation is done in-house or do they contract it to a third party who wouldn't have access to checking for duplicates? I think that Adobe probably outsources their moderation and I wonder if it might be better done in-house.

What makes you think this contributor account has committed copyright infringement? I checked some of his videos, and I couldn't find any indications of that.

You are pretty much safe from those thieves if you don't sell on unlimited download sites.  I'm 100% Pond5 exclusive.  So, I don't worry about thieves.

You dont see anything because shutterstock was quick to remove them (some of them). I already had filled DMCA before I wrote here. For your reference here are the ones removed so far from him and some others:

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/search?missingAssetId=1077190757 (https://www.shutterstock.com/video/search?missingAssetId=1077190757)

Tey answered me today that they have removed them but there are still some 6-7 to be removed and I am going to resend the DMCA.

The accounts stays intact - they just removed the stolen clips. Its like saying: "Hey we found some stuff that you stole and removed it but is all OK you can continue doing what you are doing and we are happy to have you."

Maybe, but then you depend solely on the mood, decisions, and sanity of one person (as in the case of Shutterstock's famous decisions so far). It's just not worth the risk for me, especially when they try to test the waters on Pond5, and there are no other large money pies around to keep the investors happy.

I don’t sell on unlimited sites either, but still found four of my clips on shutterstock from those links yesterday.  So being exclusive may not be 100% safe either.  I also found some of my exclusive footage on YouTube last month being given away for free(unedited). .  Thank goodness YouTube is quick at closing down those people once you notify them via up violation form

I find it strange that someone can open an account with a stock library in January 2024 and by August have 858 video assets covering animation, 3D animation, live action, drone shots etc. and have no personal details and absolutely no photos ! that was " this one too: https://www.shutterstock.com/g/DAHBYY/video (https://www.shutterstock.com/g/DAHBYY/video) "

SMELLING A RAT HERE . . .

Their system is flawed.  It only checks similars in the same batch.  You can even upload them yourself if you make 2 batches.  It certainly doesnt check against the entire library despite their systems already doing the same to display "similar clips" etc.
Again the only real conclusion is SS dont care.

Since I can't open a new topic, I want to continue here.

Yesterday, while checking a video I sold on the shutterstock website, I saw two identical videos among similar videos. When I looked at one of them out of curiosity, I saw that the exact same video had been uploaded more than 50 times among similar videos. I looked at many of them one by one, all uploaded by different accounts.

How is this possible?

(I will share the screenshot and similar page link if I can do it)

You can report that to Shutterstock. However to see less of this we need to wait for Getty to clean Shutterstock house. Hopefully from top to bottom.

There are people who offer stock content ready made and tagged for sale. They obviously sell the same package with the same files many times.

There are also people who sell ready opened accounts filled with files and first sales. You can just step in and take over.

I think this comes from etsy, youtube or ebay where it is apparently quite common to take over an established account or channel

I hope Getty cleans that up.

A lot of the Pakistan/Bangladesh work in groups, they have a pool of stolen items - either outright stolen from other sites or bought using leftover credits from genuine accounts.
They then re-sell these to others for a fee.

On top of that, there's a large trade in selling accounts to get around bans and so on.  Its a huge business for them.
