... Or any other idea?

Are you aware there's already a petition 500 people have signed asking for improvements to the preview and withholding uploads until they do?

They seem to have a fairly effective watermark. Is someone really going to do that much work to save $5?

perharps u did the same mistake i did , thinking the preview is only 600 by 300 large, when in fact,
with joanne's example, it is actually frigging large .
whether it is $5 or 25 cts, is not the issue. it is letting your work to be easily downloaded with
having to pay for it.
you may not worry about giving away your work , but 500 others of your peers do.
i hope it is not the case, and  is just a misunderstanding as i was.

500 People on a petition. Thats like having 50 Images in a port and wondering why no sales....I really Honestly Hope all you guys don't think SS is going to answer you or care One bit what you or I think. I mean seriously. there going to do what they always have done which Is do nothing and we will go away, Then do whatever they want. Who here wouldn't do the same???

One of these days maybe ...Just maybe we will have a group of serious people that can Bring about changes and scare the pants off these sites. And stop them taking advantage of us. But ya know what??... I've said it for years....... we who want change DO NOT MATTER!!!!!!. we Just don't have the numbers for them to care about us. Can you Imagine where we could be today If we had. There are just to many that are so happy to make 50 Bucks a month and Pray to god someone bought there Image.

If majority rules...And it should,. There ya go.

I've said maybe a 100 times We sold the farm in 2005 ..That is when we should have said NO. We didn't. we all thought we were gonna get rich. I tried. and was yelled at and said I was a trouble maker. YES I AM. * it. We sold the farm guys. and we have No one to Blame. It's over. shoot your stuff and take whatever you can.

Thats what there doing. And your not gonna do a * thing about it. I've already got hate mail for signing it. SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am afraid Laurin is right. Unless you are prepared to protect your property by removing your images and closing your account, they arent going to care. And unless some big guns start canceling, they arent going to care. Stopping uploading means nothing. There are too many other people who wont stop. They have done as much as they are going to.

They should make people who need giant previews pay more or something to at least try to stop the stealing. Just wishful thinking.

I just have to take an account of how many pics in my port are not protected and decide if its worth it to close my account. If the unprotected ones are low sellers anyway, it will be worth it to stay. First they all need to have the correct freaking watermark on ALL the images, though!!!

At SS sub prices, I can't see why any buyer should complain about having to buy perhaps more files than they need to show clients.
In fact, supporters of the subs model often used this as an argument in its favour, that buyers would often buy several files but only one would be used.
Some arrangement for buyers who pay more for files could surely be worked out.

Truth is, once our files are 'out there', they can be lifted, and with the RF model, it can be difficult to track legitimate buyers. Also the 'any size, one price' model positively encourages the sort of usage where a file may look small on the page, but click on it and you can find a large size version. (I know from my own iS sales that a reasonable minority of buyers buy at a size lower than the max available, but I have no way of knowing how many buy at a larger size than they need then don't bother to downsize for web use. I have found some in use, but presumably there are many more I haven't found.

However, an agency shouldn't be actively encouraging people to find files where the watermark is easy to remove.
For those who don't think people would do that - legitimate buyers would not do that (so I don't think sellers are losing real buyers) any more than most of us would steal chocolate because the shopkeeper was distracted. But I have found in-uses of my files where I could make out the diagonal lines of the iS wm not having been removed, just the central iStock bit - including on an editorial image used commercially. But I have also seen commercial sites using files with full iS or SS watermarks, so ...  :(

Haven't they already responded by changing the watermark?

Watermarks mean nothing and any 12 yr old kid that Practices awhile can remove them. The HUGH preview is the Issue.

No watermark protects anyplace, huge preview is the problem. Healing brush or clone will remove most in minutes.

looking at the polls, it looks like its pretty divided issue

angelawaye

The huge preview is the problem. It doesn't have to big that large.
