Title: Blast from the Past - Joey Lawrence Toying With Shutterstock
Post by: leaf on September 04, 2012, 03:00
I love old threads that really show how far things have come (a fun side effect of the Internet that will only get better)

Anyhow, I first heard about Shutterstock on DPChallenge and I was looking for the thread recently when I stumbled on this one (http://www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=164121).  Where Joey Lawrence complains that he only has a 1.4 megapixel camera and has to trick the system and up-rez to 2 MP to upload on Shutterstock.  He also says how he doesn't have any good stock photos.

For referance - Joey has now done some rather prestigeous things, like shoot the twilight movie poster  (http://www.joeyl.com/commercial-galleries/celebrity-entertainment/#!362), shot 50 cent (http://www.joeyl.com/commercial-galleries/celebrity-entertainment/#!351), shot for Vibe, Forbes and was on the Key Note panel at PhotoPlus Expo in NYC (http://blog.chasejarvis.com/blog/tag/joey-lawrence/) last year with Chase Jarvis and a few others.  He's come a long way since 2004 to put it mildly.

.. and here's that original Shutterstock thread (http://www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=135447)

Remember his first challenge entries ... amazing work from that little 1.4 megapixel camera.

The good old days when Jon himself jumped into a thread. One person kinda nailed it... he didnt want to contribute for .20 an image if commissions were going to go down to .05 in the future. I dont see .05 commissions at ss, but everywhere else I do. I only read the first page. Which one is joey?

Ha! Interesting thread.
I noticed that one NicoBlue said, in 2005," I have trouble meeting istock standards with my g5 set on iso 50".
I guess he's not using a G5 nowadays!

Yeah, he's done some really nice stuff.  Lots of people and lots of travelling .. not to mention most of it was done before he was 20.  He's 22 now.

It's actually great that he got off microstock at 15 then, and his style wasn't compromised or his creativity stunted. A real 'blessing in disguise'. SS's loss is the world's gain.

And I see his current equipment is:
PhaseOne P45
Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III
Canon EOS-5D
Minolta DiMAGE 7Hi
Olympus D-600L
