Congratz!  :)

Such sales used to be more common in the past. Just don't expect too much, not good for you health  ;)

Always amazed by those who don't know what it is they are signing up for - even when it is pleasant surprises that shock them.

Forgive me for expecting the majority of my image sales to be about 50 cents on SS.. I sell about 300 images a month at the moment and that's what they average.. So when one sells for $250ish dollars... and not $1 as the rest do, I think surprise is a natural reaction.   Don't you?

Sounds reasonable to me.  Maybe there's a case of sour grapes.

Congrats on the great sale!!  It's been a long time since I had one like that, but it sure is fun when it happens!

No sour grapes - I've had bigger this month already -- But I know what I will get, be it .38 or $126 and everything in-between.

It's always a nice surprise to get larger sales but you admit you didn't know it was possible. I just find it incredulous that people submit without knowing all the details, especially how much you can make.

Look I hear you.. I understand that some people just don't get sarcasm. And to show that I have no sour grapes myself, I'll even offer to help heave that long stick from out of your arse.  8) ::)

Over a $100 was normal for SOD sales for years. the sites especially SS loves newbies. They have no idea what it used to be.

I got my first and last 100+ sale two years before. Now it's all about subs... No wonder SS reports huge profits year after another...

Its got nothing to do with someone buying my pictures..I sell plenty on SS and another agencies.

It was that I was surprised that an image sold for more than $2 on Shutterstock!

Why are people taking this so negatively? This forum is so abrasive - I don't get it.

I understand exactly what you are writing. Without atacking anyone personally. There are many nice people here but in general it is all about making destructive comments or see the whole industry black. Dont understand me wrong. I like critics but only if they are constructive. To many people that want to create a negative imagination about all the stock agencies. Complaining about competition. Complaining that their position in the search engine changed. For every little change the agency is here taken down in a level that new contributors are scared to even start. There is a chance for everybody in microstock and that is a fact. I spend much time on the Alamy forum because there the comments are like a education instead of black words.

Gongratulations for the sale mate.

Congrats.  Try Alamy.  They sometimes sell for over $1,000 and you get 50% of it.  That makes me WHOOHOO.

LOL!!  8)I'm with Alamy, I love those guys :) thanks to them I'm able to shoot the MotoGP and other major Motorsport events. And its true they do sometimes sell for that amount, but you'd expect that from a Macrostock agency.. High prices, low volume.

If one of my images sold for that on Alamy though, I'd truly been dancing around my studio yelling Woohoooo!!!  ;D ;D It hasn't happened yet though :(

Thanks Mirco,

You're spot on about Alamy forums, the nicest bunch of online people ever. They are always willing to help, never afraid of competition and rather than winging about change, they run with it.

It's the opposite of this forum - although there also are some very nice people here too!

Cheers,
Dave.

Don't wory about it. Those are mostly old senile farts, their whole purpose of life is constant complaining.

Funny reading that about the Alamy forum.  Mention you did microstock there a few years ago and you would of got worse abuse than you usually see here.  They still have a few obnoxious morons, one of them has been banned lots of times here but keeps coming back.  I don't mind the banter here most of the time, any internet forum without a lot of moderation is going to have people that make negative comments but you soon see who they are and learn to ignore them.  Sometimes they make a valid point.
