https://www.shutterstock.com/blog/shutterstock-contributor-app-new-look

I think I must be having a cranky day, but I read this (it was linked from the contributor home page) and wanted to throw things.

I like the contributor app. It's great that they have it (Adobe - it'd be great if you had one too).

But I wouldn't go as far as saying the app "...has received yet another exciting update" when they've just changed the background from black to white!

This color change "...ensures that contributors receive a consistent Shutterstock visual experience across all platforms". Do they realize that contributors care about sales? Exciting is a $75 SOD, not a white background instead of black.

Instead of writing inane blog posts, how about asking contributors what useful features or stats they could add to the app? Something contributors could actually use...

Off to do something useful :)

Oh, Jo Ann ~ Surely you know that 'exciting' in microland is different from 'exciting' anywhere else, including dictionaries!

I know, I should be happy that "exciting" news doesn't involve cutting my royalties, but as I said, I'm feeling a tad cranky today :)

I rolled my eyes and threw up in my mouth a little when I saw the link to the post. I didn't even bother to look at it. There is so much more they could do if they wanted to improve things for contributors.

The design is actually a bit of a downgrade visually. Whe you strip contrast and make everything white, its not design anymore, its about following trends.

By removing lines between rows and the contrast between header and body, the mind has to work harder to distinguish everything. Maybe it looks slightly more modern, but its harder to use than before.

And removing text from tab items? Like everyone knows what an icon means. Again, the mind has to work harder to figure things out. Good design make things easier for the user, not harder.

Why is it so hard to separate out subscription/od/el/sod? Why must they all jumble together in a long list? And why can't they sorted from oldest to newest.

Because it is easier to change from #000 to #FFF.

A site that functions consistently would be "exciting" though it should be dull and not news. Apparently there are lots of issues with new contributors registering (though not bad news for us) and uploading videos.

I'm really past caring about that ship of fools they rearrange deck chairs while the SS Shutterstock slips quietly beneath the waves  ;D

Yeah, but don't forget that we're part of the orchestra on the SS titanic.

Yeah, but don't forget that we're part of the orchestra on the SS titanic.

Not the orchestra by any long chalk but the poor electricians and stokers refusing to leave their post trying vainly to keep the lights running and the pumps working.

So this gets a blog post but changing requirements for MRs doesn't?

I have a strong feeling that SS is trying to hide stats from us. All the changes they made for a last few years is made for hiding stats. And only after it - to play with UI.

Someone who worked in IT company will understand. They have art director, artists and UI designers who constanly need new tasks. Otherwise management sees that they have nothing to do and can decide to fire them. So they constantly come up with new work to do and never ending UI redesigns. Just look how often all other apps update UI.

As a matter of interest are uploads to the app confined to images taken with mobile phones.?

Wrong thread apologies and I can't delete.
