Wow,  who or what group could possibly see Shutterstock as a target?

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack is serious business and normally executed to make a point or bring a company down.

I just got an XSOD on an image that only sold 2 times before, of my dad sweeping the back yard. Could it be something like the Istock mirror site? That they hacked into SS and are now purchasing images illegally or something? Maybe I need to sit on that money in case of a refund.

EDIT: If I was allowed to post screenshots, I would. I have no reason to make up my earnings, and never have. The persons who vote me down because they dont believe me, can PM me and I will send you a screenshot.

I don't see how a denial of service attack would fit in with stealing images.
Perhaps someone has a big bet out on the share price falling and is using the attack to try to manipulate the stock price.
It did drop 3% today to (*gulp*) $99.

Thanks for clearing that up, makes sense Paul.

Either that or Getty is trying to get cute. Stock manipulation seems more likely, although anyone with a really big position would come under pretty extreme scrutiny. Hopefully sales are not too drastically effected.

After they resolved the attack, my sales came back. Really good end to a consecutive BME in 2014.
