That's insane.  :o Gotta be wasted energy on the artist's side, as well as wasted server space.

Someone left the camera on High Speed and uploaded the entire memory card.  ;D

We should flood the Shutterstock mailbox with lamentations for things like that!

I thought they were clamping down on similar image abuse?

This (https://www.shutterstock.com/search?search_source=base_search_form&language=en&searchterm=Christmas+basket+with+red+apples+and+pomegranates+decorated+with+fir+branches&image_type=all) is just insane.

When I send in two similar shots, one gets rejected. How does stuff like this get past reviewers?

This has to be a person letting this through, because an automated process would cop on.

Uploading 50 similars at a time pushes all the competition out of the first page of most recent. This is happening a lot with vectors, too.

I think the folks who were using the same keyword 50 times (until we complained enough for SS to put a stop to it) are now flooding the site with 50-100 almost identical images to squash other contributors from gaining any traction.

Seems to me the important point here is that this stuff can't possibly be coming in through the official inspection process.  Someone is getting it in through a back door.

I'm getting a bit confused with that answer because the search "Christmas basket with red apples and pomegranates decorated with fir branches" now only shows two images.

So, it seems that what was written in that reply is not true after all.

"Thank you for reaching out too us." Any one using that phrase needs locking up for crimes against language particularly when they don't know the difference between to and too.

I actually hate that use of 'reaching out to us'.
The allusion is presumably to 'reaching out for help', like if you're drowning in a pond and someone holds out a pole for you to reach out and grab*.
The should say 'contacting us' or more informally 'getting in touch'.

*Though I guess you could say that by informing them of a problem, you're reaching out to them with a pole for them to grab.

Luckily I no longer work in corporate speak world but so many annoying phrases like that its not reaching out it's simply contacting them.

This is the part that got me, "... as they may have some difference that we may not be able to view right away".

Say what?  They might have hidden differences that will be revealed in the future?  After having too much to drink?  Buyers will see a difference that is invisible to the reviewer's eye?  I agree with the bit about contributors submitting whatever they want but this part makes no sense.

Click on one of them and then show similar https://www.shutterstock.com/search/similar/514912189 (https://www.shutterstock.com/search/similar/514912189)

Hard to tell if something small moved, or if the crop is minutely different. All these identical images don't make for better sales, they drive customers away.

Unless it is the proprietary computer vision technology with AI trying to justify it's review process, do you think contributor support is human?

I was just looking at a Pic from someone On SS that was approved that is By Far the worst Photo I've yet to see in all my Micro experiences, and I reviewed for 3 years in the beginning and thought I had seen It all, Sometimes back then it was entertainment.. This was so over the top, the review staff had to be 100% drunk to approve this, Not so Much the subject which was super bad the destroyed chunks of Pixels from super Poor WB and noise was something I could not duplicate if I tried. Truly a benchmark Image of where this is going. I have a very old habit of searching to see what folks are doing.....WOW is the only word I can come up with....Embarrassing is another. I and a few friends spent Years trying to help folks do better.....FOR WHAT????????!!!!!!!!!!!!! it has gone in reverse and honestly I don't even think they know it. What a shame.

Similars don't matter unless they mess up the search.

That's the way I see it. Only makes the agency look bad, doesn't hurt me any. I doubt that it makes these people more money, just makes them work much harder for what little they will get. Diminishing returns...
