Duck Thread SS forum March 2010 (until it's gone, or maybe they will leave it and lock access?)

https://forums.submit.shutterstock.com/topic/45949-all-rejected-due-to-sharpneness/

On 3/25/2010 at 2:12 PM, spopho said:
These look pretty sharp to me. Ducks fly at fifty mph, so SS doesn't have many good shots of these birds in flight. I realize there is noise, but that isn't the issue with these shots. No sharpening was applied.

Focus is definatley OOF and yes there is noise and there are some people here who stop Jet Aircraft in their tracks and they are razor sharp."

OP "Look, Troll. Jets are 100 times easier to shoot than ducks. Absolutely, no comparison. I've done both. For one thing, you are a half a mile from the jet, and it is way more predictable than a duck. A fairer comparison would be trying to pan a fighter taking off from a flight deck 20 feet away. Also, your eyesight blows. Thanks for your reply."

Sorry, after your last comment I decided you are not looking for help, just a fight. I withdraw my critique."

OP "Take your brand of help somewhere else."

"These are Mallards. Common as muck.
There is no excuse to not photograph a mallard perfectly, else let the little old ladies or kids do it with ther cellphones.
Capture one, put it in the studio, set up five strobes, and then you might have a mallard photo that can compete.
These are not sharp, they are full of noise and not worth a dispute."

OP "Look, Moron. These are in the wild and in flight. They are far from common."

OP (after more name calling)

"I only bite those that want it. I love photographing ducks and they sell. There really aren't a lot of good pics of ducks in flight. The pics I posted here are consistent in quality with the ones in my port. In some cases they are better. I didn't apply noise reduction, either, because I would rather leave that up to the buyer. These obviouly weren't taken in the studio, nor could they have been, so noise is always going to be an issue (these are action shots). I thought in my original post I told the noise trolls to remove that issue from there little brains."

The OP is gone, never returned, but the topic was turned into a joke that went on for 15 pages of laughs. And I mean fun about rejections, duck photos, speed, blur, and not just about the OP.

ps, this shot of mine, probably posed, easy to track, and much slower than a 50MPH duck?  ::)

Yes Nice!!
Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos), male Feral Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos forma domestica)
In the netherlands in the past, the male mallards had a shiny green neck and head. But because the females, males also liked the domestic ducks, you now see hybrids like these mallards

My ducks don't sell, but I photographed a few especially for the topic.  :)

Ahh, the duck thread!
I expect it will disappear in a few days so here's my duck contribution to the new thread  ;D

Some referred to it as the fowl thread too? Or was that a foul thread?

This is a duck?

that place was a cess pit, everyone was rude under the guise of 'just honest critique', it was not, it was a place full of bigheads seeing it as an oportunity to completely trash anyone with a subpar photo. the place was not to help people but to put people down, all under the leadership of rinder,, who is a bang average photographer himself, and just manages to use one filter setting on photoshop for every portrait image he ever took. and barry blackburn couldnt take a proper photo himself but thought he was the authority on giving critique, yet all he could write was OOF.  and i could go on and on. might as well post the thread where 'seasoned' photographers were bikkering over the colour of the sky. one said cyan the other said blue and it caused ww3. so many 'classic' threads, but in reality it was all just blown up egos thinking they were better than everyone else. who was that guy from UK, couldnt figure out where he ended and rinder started, so far he was up rinders anus. so many vile persons on that forum. i think the only level headed person on there was that ex cop, shot some nice food stuff, but then turns out he conspired with rinder about leaving the forum only to come back again, leave again and then got banned or something, the drama queens. hahaha, what a soap opera

Didn't notice, but I think you're talking about before my time.
At least I never read negative things in the Duck thread. Unfortunately here it is
Pete tries to post a nice topic and you use it to show all your frustrations about all the negative things you've been through. Who's negative here? Pete or You?
If this is the vibe at Microstock, I'm out of here.

Except the Duckthread I liked the threads with photos that told of the history in the area where you live and with insect and spider photos (my hobby). But I also did enjoy looking at other people's photos that they were proud of. But not all of that has to come back.

I totally agree with you, Thijs. Since I've been in the Shutterstock forum, the tone has been very friendly (mostly) and the contributions are mostly helpful, so the forum bashing here is difficult for me to understand too.

Not that I will ever miss the "show-me-threads" but you are doing exactly what you describe others have done, you are rude!
You could speak your mind over there too but it is much safer under the cover of anonymity, isn't it?

I see you are familiar with the SS forums' history, at least a part of it.
What is/was your name over there?I bet you are one of those:
bigheads seeing it as an oportunity to completely trash anyone ........... to put people down...........

Thijs, Ralf: it's historic and unfortunately some people seem to be still so filled with venom (on the various SS threads here) that they can't move on.

Yes, in the past, before your time, there was acrimony caused by particular personalities, but that is long past.

In the last couple of years the tone of the SS forums has been polite, supportive, friendly and, despite what others seem to believe, the discussions are mainly about stock and photography.

In fact, I can think of very little that has been discussed other than these two subjects.

It is a great loss to those who actually contribute to it but not to those who are lost in the past.

The first page of the link above is called 'All Rejected due to Sharpness'.  It isn't the 'Duck Thread' which was in 'Show and Tell'.

The first page that you are referring to is from 2010.  That's 11 years ago.

11 years ago is irrelevant now.

That's 100 years ago. Pete had rebooted it on Shutterstock too about a year ago. No one reacted negatively to that like you.
Again.,, all photo topics are not necessary for me either. But let the past rest. For a lot of people it's a thing of the past and a lot like Ralf and I haven't even experienced it. Only sometimes heard from an old Shutterstocker.

It's meant to be with a camera, not a gun ...
