Got an email from Shutterstock with topic: Removed some images
The mail:

We have removed the following images that you uploaded.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) deleted because: Per
Exclusive Sale.

Is this a good mail about $$$'s that don't yet show on my account or is this a bad mail?
What does it mean?

It sounds like they have sold a file exclusively and then have deleted your file.
That does not make much sense, since you might have that file for sale at other agencies.

Don't they have to contact you for permission before selling a file exclusively?
I can see they might want to deactivate a file while they contacted you to confirm availability of the file as exclusive and whether you were willing to do to. But surely they email asking you should have been sent at the same time?
Anyway, hopefully it's Big Money for You. 8)

I don't dare to contact them. I'll just order me another U2713H and some new lenses.

sorry but that doesn't make sense I really think you should contact them
sure you can go and accept whatever money SS is willing to pay you (amount you still don't know), IMO I believe that email is spam and nothing will happen, never heard anything like this from SS, selling our file as exclusive?

SS has never and always said they will never have "EXCLUSIVE"!

That's have exclusive content. If they sold an exclusive rights license, that is different. The whole post doesn't make a lot of sense though. They can't sell something exclusive to one customer without knowing where else the file is being sold. It would be meaningless.

Of course i contacted them. Waiting for reply.
Thumbnail for the image is showing in catalog manager, but as soon as i click it i get a popup with message: We can't find the content you wanted to edit, please check the ID (xxxxxxxx) and try again.
So this image seems to be deleted and the mail seems to be legit. Will have to wait and see.

Don't sale revenues show up pretty much immediately? Sounds pretty wierd unless they think you have it for sale exclusively elsewhere?

The fact that such an e-mail template exists at all, even if sent in error, raises a whole load of questions.
Is this something new that SS is contemplating offering? If it is, I sincerely hope that contributors can opt out of that specific type of sale (while leaving all other on-demand and extended licenses enabled).
Any chance of an explanation for contributors about what is going on here?

Thanks for letting us know Anthony. There's not many agencies that would be so quick and so public to admit to 'a mistake'. Glad to know it's been resolved. A little more detail about how it occurred would be appreciated though, especially if it involves an up-coming change in policy.

And that process involves the contributor agreeing to the deal in writing, before anything moves forward. The contributor also has to agree to the amount of money being offered.
That's how it's supposed to go. Maybe in this case it really was just a mistake and an erroneous email was sent out. The email could be what is sent after the deal is done, when documents are signed and funds are transferred, and the image needs to then be deleted from the system. Just a guess, but it makes sense to me that such an email would exist for this reason.

For example: Image 12100101 was sold exclusive and someone sending the email entered 12101101 and bingo the email was sent. I don't find anything huge or mysterious in a typo sending a notification message to the wrong person. ;)
