Editorial Question

(1/1)

Pixart:
An editorial photograph was recently removed "per Legal".

We have removed the following images that you uploaded.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride (15312817) deleted because: Quality
Control - Deleted per Legal, "RCMP" is protected.

Does that mean the word RCMP is protected?  Can't we use words like RCMP and IPOD etc. in editorial labels and keywords?

Once again I am confused about what editorial really means.  Certainly their uniform would be copyrighted, and they have likely protected their name, but you see photos of the musical ride in the paper every time they perform.  I know the army is pretty fussy about what photos are allowed, but this photo does not jeopordize national security in any way, it was at a public event and the tickets did not have restrictions on photographs.

Do you think they deleted correctly, or did they perhaps delete not realizing it was editorial?

If I am not mistaken, RCMP images are distributed by their own press . It's like the Canadian Snow Birds, you cannot sell them as stock.  That's as far as I am told by my colleagues .
But to be more correctly informed, you can easily check directly with the RCMP Public Relations .

There are a few regulations concerning publishing images of law enforcement and the military.  That may be the reason for your conflict?
