Title: Food photos - what categories do you use
Post by: j2k on May 23, 2008, 13:06
Hi, I'm wondering. I post my food shots into food & drink category only, and leave the second one empty. I'm wondering if I'm not missing out by doing so.  On the other hand I don't want to spam other categories with irrelevant pictures.

Any suggestions? What other categories could reasonably apply to food photos?

Thanks,
J.

I doubt you are missing out.  I just choose food/drink, and my best sellers on SS are food shots. At times you can justify a second category, like if it is obviously vacation themed, or you are shooting food against a tropical scene, etc.  But generally a second category is stretching things.

I assume the vast majority of the shots are chosen by search, rather than by category.

Thanks for the reply :) I'll just stick to one category. Sometimes I choose abstract on close up shots, but these usually just don't pass review due to focus issues ;)

Make sure your focus is in the right spot.  I hate to sound like a SS reviewer, but it's critical.  There should always be a focal point of your food subject, and your focus should be absolutely sharp on that point.  Sometimes I might disagree with the reviewer on where the focus should be, but usually we are in good agreement.
