I find this happening more and more.

On Zazzle, whenever I'm promoting other artist's or photographer's work on products on my blog, I always ask that they own the rights to their images.  Even though I demand it in writing, about 25% are sneaky rat bags who try to palm other people's work as their own and I find heaps of rip offs using tineye, image exchange etc.  I always ridicule them and send the artist/photographer a message asking them to check if they've sold a print licence and if not, to have the theive's products removed and have their account shut down.

If everyone started doing this as they find other people's work stolen, it would make it more difficult for these people to steal them.

In the end, were they hosting your images or hot linking from another site, as they said in their last reply?  If they were not hosting and if in the host it was implied that images were free, then it's only the host site that is really culprit, although their defensive reply and the "People are begging us to post their content online" sentence seem to indicate that they knew they were wrong, but are trying to look innocent.

Well, subs make this always easier.

Don't you think a site is responsible if they are giving away vectors that are from SS? With no credit to the artists I don't even see how they call that a tutorial. I know inside that my stuff is going to be stolen, it still hurts though. I don't put my heart and conceptual thought into many images this series was one I really cared about, and to be honest they are not hot sellers so it makes me sad to see them for free and someone else is taking credit.

Subs, down-loadable vectors catch 22 really, I love art I went to school to study it, I find myself overqualified for jobs so I decide to sell some work so that I can use my skills have some fun and pay for my brain. What do you do, its hard not to get worked up a bit.

Renee, I was refering to this part of your quoted reply from them:
Quote
As for your art work , the picture was just a jpg image not a vector file linking to another site who had hosted it. Therefore by no ways we have claimed  free download of your art work.

If they (site A) are not hosting the images, but another site is (site B) , then it's B who is putting them illlegally for download. Then if B is saying "download for free" and A is just linking to B, A isn't guilt indeed - they may not know B is using illegal material.

But, as I said, their wording doesn't sound like A was innocent.

Ya you have a good point and thank you for your words.
They defended themselves above saying it was just a jpeg but the link on their site before they deleted my image it was a link to a rar file  with Shutterstock in the name of the link, so if they go to a site and find "stuff" for download and call that a tutorial I think they are compliant in the least with their negligent act assisting people to steal. It's all meaningless as I am not Disney and no one really gives a crap if my crap gets ripped off. Still I have a hard time sleeping its one thing to put my art on t-shirts and another to give away my vector, plus the rar file had two of my images from SS. argh :'(

If they don't remove your image(s) from their store, go ahead and contact the web hosting company:
Here is the WHOIS info:

domain: STILIZART.RU
nserver: ns1.r01.ru.
nserver: ns2.r01.ru.

Webhosting company: http://www.r01.ru/
E-Mail the web host: [email protected] and/or [email protected]

Tell them that this guy is selling your stuff without a license and infringing your copyright. I've never dealt with a Russian web host before so I don't know if they will remove it for you or leave it up to him.

Here is more stuff about this guy/company:

w w w.youtube DOT com/watch?v=e5CbfxGE-TQ&feature=related
Leave negative feedback - comments have been disabled - gee I wonder why...

WHOIS E-Mail contact: [email protected]

or [email protected]

or [email protected]

Maybe you need to send a few emails out until he/they understand what's happening...  ::)

Best of luck!

Whoops, I just saw that you got that one figured out already. But I leave this up in case someone else runs into trouble.

You're welcome. I hope it helps!

Whenever something like this happens use a WHOIS search to find the web hosting company. Contact them, they usually will take care of things.
