ME 92% photo, 8% illustration   01.08.2007 (boring)

Below New Photos this month (and the data is for last month) date joined Nov. 2011. WOW!

1   Featureflash   11 991   80% photo, 20% illustration      11.08.2011  Number of works in portfolio: 43 734
2   s_bukley            7 607   100% photo                      11.08.2011

New Members by year (should be interesting after the update)

While this would indicate that the influx of new artists is slowing, there are some big guns coming to play the game.

interesting site, I hadn't seen that before.  Crazy how quickly some people are uploading.  One user has uploaded nearly 12,000 images this month.

Featureflash appears to be an agency or group of photographers, specialising in red-carpet events, dumping their catalogue from the last 18 months or so. Seems that they get very preferential reveiwing of their images. Trouble is their stuff is both very niche and also time-sensitive so I can't imagine they sell much. Sort of stuff that really needs to be sold at higher prices __ but one assumes they've tried that and it wasn't working for them.

Back to the OP. Interesting stat's but I think the really important number is the "New images added this week" figure. It doesn't matter how many artists register but how many images are collectively accepted.

Yes that's true. And with big collections coming online, it's not the number of members, but the number of files. However with less new people, producing the SOS and getting it accepted, there might also be some people dropping.

What we'll never see is how many people tried and stopped. Look at all the people with under 100 files. Unlike IS, people seemed to upload more to SS before going dormant. 65% on IS have under 100 images.

This is kind of confusing the way he does it, but interesting...

10 025 authors have portfolio with more than 250 works, is 30.16% from the total amount. (70% have less than 250 images on SS)
15 966 authors have portfolio with more than 100 works, is 48.04% from the total amount. (OR 52% have LESS than 100 images)
12 665 authors have portfolio with less than 50 works, is 38.11% from the total amount.

The only point was, less people are jumping into the business. Maybe the flood of new competition is slowing down? The IS numbers showed less new applications in the same period, which I was wondering if it was right. This kind of confirms the New Artists numbers.

I'll need to make a dual graph for both and see if they track a similar line, but for now I'm backing up, removing dupes (wow what a headache, back-ups or back-ups...) culling and moving emails and deleting old junk. House cleaning the computers for the new year. As if it will ever be organized around here? LOL At least I backed up all the CDs and DVDs to external drives, and I've packed those off to the warehouse. No more plastic for me.

Last week USB 3, 500GB external drive was $64 and a 2T was $99 on sale in Nov., backup on stable media works for me. (then gets unplugged and goes on the shelf in the vault) Desktop drop in SATA caddy now added, that's really slick and easy! (old drives are free sometimes)

Hard drive prices are high at the moment due to world events. For example the Western Digital factory in Bangkok has been under 2m of water for most of the last couple of months and production is only getting back underway very slowly.
