Title: How important is category?
Post by: Mrblues101 on June 05, 2015, 15:58
Im just uploading a big number of images today and to save some time i just select everyone and put general categories; but now im wondering, how important is to put images in correct category to sell better?

That is a good question. Asking myself some time ago. Is anyone searching categories these days? I doubt it.

Well if a customer is looking for an type of image categories help narrow the search down.

So if you are submitting food shots you select the food category.

SS will not accept an image without a category.

As to putting an image in the wrong category on purpose?  Why on on earth would anyone want to do that it's counter intuitive.

On what basis do you make that assumption?

I use categories very often for image searches

Well, when you upload vector illustration most of images fix good with category "abstract" and also "backgrounds"... so some times y just put abstract and backgrounds category and dont waste time thinking and choosing different categories

Never thought they did much good, but since DT now shows keywords used to select your image, if there are no keywords, you have to assume they started with categories.

Teddy, really? I was just asking -and wondering how people search. My doubts were based only on my own behaviour.

I never use category search. If I wanto to "narrow results" to let's say food, I simply add Food to the search query. Hard to imagine that a food picture would not have included the food keyword.

I agree with you, but maybe if the pic is on food category and you search by food, search algorithm make this picture more relevant. The question is: category is related to search keyword?

Yes really :D

Go look up food category "the arts"  ;D "abstract" is funnier though
