If there is any at all. I was accepted on ss on April 17. I just have 22 images there, but 47 downloads. I've heard that newbies get preference. I think this is speculation, but it could be true as 47 downloads seems a lot. I can understand preference for new images but not for newbies. Do any of you know anything about this? Cheers.

My charts show higher-than-normal sales for about my first month there (Jan 07). Maybe the honeymoon lasts 30 days? It's anybody's guess, really.

Don't worry, there are many honeymoons at SS. Every time I upload new content it is BANG!! great  ;) But when they get old it slows down. Keep uploading and you will be fine.

I would say it was related to number of downloads. I was going up for more than month:

I had thought the honeymoon on SS was for new images, not new contributors.  Maybe I am wrong?  I haven't been a new contributor there since March 2005.

Yes, but after the first month there's a noticeable change in the slope of your line. If DLs influenced the honeymoon, mine would have been over almost immediately - I had >1400 in my first month on SS. It took me two more months to get that number past 2000 DLs/month.

There's long been speculation that new contributors are somehow favored. This is a completely different thing than new images.

I think the apparent favoritism for new submitters is due to the fact that the 'new images boost' gets watered down the more images you have online.

That same 10 images/day extra downloads you get when you upload 20 more images just doesn't seem as spectacular if you are already averaging 60 downloads/day, sure it makes a difference but not the 100% or 500% increase in earnings you got when the 10 extra images were a significant boost to your portfolio size.

A few lucky people get in the new artist lightbox on the front page.  That will provide a nice sales boost.

The secret, as other have said is to keep uploading good, clean concept
oriented images. However, they just changed they way the image search
works, so...

Similar experience here.  I had 1600 first full month and it took me 6 months to better that.  Considering I have a portfolio about  6 times bigger than I did then I don't get that many more dls now. Of course earnings are much higher because of earning 38c instead of 25c and lots of ODs to bump it up.

This seems like a logical explanation. If it is however something to do with being the first month online, then I might notice soon, as my first month is almost over. Still getting what seems to be a lot of downloads for the amount of images I have online. I wish I had more time and faster speed than 60kbps upload speed to do microstock.

whatever it is, it's a smart strategy to "fee the beast",
"the first taste of opium is always free"  ;)

How I would love to feed the beast. However, circumstances dictate and I can only give the beast a low carb diet.
