Title: How Long for accepted images to appear in port?
Post by: Pixart on June 09, 2012, 21:44
Jeez, how many days is it taking for new approvals to land in your port these days?   I haven't seen these shots since I got the approval notices on Wednesday.

changed the subject to be more descriptive

Me 2 ... they're visible when setting default to NEW but still not visible at Submit page.  ???
They were accepted on June 6.

ed: also, the "active image" count hasn't increased.

Mine were accepted last week (Tuesday or Wed I think) and they aren't visible in my portfolio, but they are visible in searches both under new and under popular. They aren't on the Catalog Manager though. Before when they showed up on search under anything but new they were also in the portfolio and under the catalog manager.

Finally!  They are there today.  Almost 3 weeks.

I've been awaiting about 2 weeks for a handful of approved photos to show up in the 'gallery'.   I can't think of any sensible reason for the delay. But the odd thing is, I can't picture how this could be happening unintentionally, because of a software quirk.   The expected behavior would be that approval of an image sets its state to 'on line' in the database.  There's no obvious reason why someone would have to come along 2 weeks later and make this happen manually, or why the delay would be deliberately set up in software as a task for a scheduled process.   It's in the interest of SS to get photos in front of buyers right away.

They have been having this issue for a long while.  Clearly the different applications that interface with the Buyers, Our Ports, Catalog Manager, Darkroom applications, etc are not in sync with the contents of the database. The question is why does this issue continue to be a problem.

Either they do not give a Rat Ass how this affects us or they have real problems on their hands and they have yet to get them under control. It makes me seriously question the scalability and stability of the site.

In the period surrounding an IPO,  internal direction is lost. Management becomes totally focused on the "deal" because a big payday is in sight.   Don't expect any technical advances during this time.

This is an interesting possibility. How many times as contributors have we suggested that instead of rejecting superior, new material that agencies clean house and delete inferior, old material which never sells? They are pushing toward 20 million images, and I bet only a fraction of those images actually sell. The possibility that this glut of old material which buyers ignore is hurting their stability is quite interesting indeed.

It's been weeks, and my recent batch hasn't show up in the "Darkroom/Image Gallery Stats BETA" page.  Maybe that project is dead.
