If youre going to lie, learn how to lie better. If you exaggerate to an acceptable amount, people will believe you. If you exaggerate to an impossible amount, then people can laugh with you.

With contributors like Raw Pixel and African Studio, 35,000 is easily achievable.

I would have thought 35,000 +/- 5000 was an obvious piss take, (the same as my best ever day $25 from 2500 which I pretended to be chuffed about). When I was asked the inevitable probing 'wow, what are you shooting' question I was going to answer 'monarch butterflies'. Of course the gullible people out there would have just started shooting and uploading millions of monarch butterfly photos in anticipation of downloads and $.

None of this is making any sense. I had a quick look at your post history and just on your first few post on this forum you posted more detailed facts and figures (made up ones?) than most people here do over their whole history.

It doesn't add up that you are on some sort of humorous crusade against people who are "too obsessed with figures on this forum". Even more bizarre that the joke involves sometimes posting perfectly believable stats, like making $25 in a day and totally unbelievable joke stats (by your reasoning) like 35000 dls a month.

I am sounding way too much like a give sh*t how you get your kicks now. Basically I just know to ignore whatever you say from now on.

May: 4111 downloads
May 2016: 5047

Since November last year I dropped about ~ 1000 downloads per month.

But stil positive. Earnings are steady again and I'm trying to climb back to my old numbers. I already have about 450 downloads per month from new images since the 'November Crash of 2016'  :P

May I take a quick look at your portfolio and perhaps give a few tips?

So you're concerned about me wasting my time typing out scenario, but you don't care about other people wasting their time asking you their 'inevitable questions'?

There's nothing wrong with a joke, but a joke usually only works when it's A) funny and B) it's clear that it's a joke. Yours had neither unfortunately!

About 35,000 +/- 5000

So, $15-20k a month?  What are you shooting?
The good question is "What are you smoking?" (maybe)

I'm just smoking ordinary weed and  I'm around $15-20 as well!  got a joint there if anybody wants! ;D

The general 'yah-boo-sucks-not-tellin'-ya' or indeed 'how long is a piece of string?' answer is 42, but maybe not everyone nowadays gets the reference (maybe if one said 42, someone would think 42 was the literal answer, but who cares about them?  ;D 8) :P)

Douglas Adams.  Does that make me old or cool?  Not sure.  ;D

...Are we allowed to say here?ill add mine if we are.

You're not supposed to disclose that information as of a change a few years back in the contract we agree to as contributors:

newbielink:https://submit.shutterstock.com/legal/terms?language=en [nonactive]

From Section 15:

"By submitting any Content to Shutterstock, you acknowledge that you will acquire certain confidential and proprietary information, including but not limited to royalty rates, royalty payments and earnings data (collectively, "Confidential Information"). You agree to keep Confidential Information confidential and to not disclose Confidential Information to any third party other than representatives, agents, attorneys, accountants, auditors and advisors with a bona fide need to know, who shall first agree to keep the terms confidential."

I think that download numbers would be considered part of that list (although I'm not aware of any action they've taken for breaches of these terms). Especially as the information is largely meaningless without the context of a particular portfolio, I don't know why you'd take the risk.

Just what if... more than half of the contributors shate all those confidential information? Would SS terminate everyone's account? They earn more than we do from our creations. Would they be thinking -as we Turks say- "I'd rather sell lemons"?

That's what I shoot butterflies, ducks, insects, birds, cute puppies and kitty cats. Flowers and the garden are my biggest earners. Fresh vegetables are an all time high earning subject. First I go look at what there are the most of, because it must be good if so many people take pictures of that. Most popular subjects must be good because there are so many.

RPD varies from month to month. Feb was about 70c, this month is close to $3, many others hover around $1. But that's my photos, which aren't other people photos. Same as RPI which only applies to what I make from my pictures. Some do better, some do worse. How many downloads could be someone gets 15 ELs a month and someone other gets 50 subs a month.

Who makes more? Useless numbers, all of them.

Just because i don't like seeing people taken for a ride, doesn't mean i need 'loosing' up. Heres a drink for you ' Dosa Reality'
Im glad its a 'great shot' .... for you, but just because you said it, doesnt make it true.
I changed a tap once, maybe I should write a book on how to be a successful plumber?
Anyway, good luck.

I'll share my numbers too then (they are on a small side though :D

Last summer I got well over 200 dls a month and I thought it was good because i had 300 something photos in my port, my rpd was between 50 cents to 1 usd.
Now I've got 580 images (and 4 clips) and I sold only about 150 images in May  :( my rpd was above 1$ though in May due to a few nice sales, but still... it doesn't look like it's going to be better in June.

But there are a few things that changed for me over the last year:
- I used to have one buyer (i think he was one of my followers) from the north of Mexico, who would stop by nearly everyday to buy a few photos from the same North of Mexico series, actually even buying same photos over and over again, they shopped in my port for about half a year at least. not sure why they needed to license the same photos and who they were, but I miss them ;D
- last April when there was a huge offshore scandal in Panama, I uploaded a series of about 10 images from Panama city, mostly nightscapes, they sold everyday, and around autumn it kind of stopped.. And these are not my only bestsellers that stopped selling.
- I used to sell more series (until this last winter I think) - not sure how you call it, but when a buyer gets several of your photos at once? It happened a lot before and then something changed in the search I guess and I don't see it happening as often.

So, I lost the buyer, I lost some of my all time bestsellers and haven't uploaded anything that would make up for it, boo boo boo

Have you ever thought about doing a google reverse search(or Tineye)  on those images and trying to contact that buyer directly? You would effectively cut out the agency and earn 100% of the commission and potentially commissioned work.

I liked your #5 and the beer above the beach. Hopefully your nice cool message from either of these is what sells. Good work and ideas.

Any good selling image in micro will usually have a concept and message that can be used by many different buyers.
