My SS sales are increasing together with my portfolio, so no problems here. But despite lots of sales, I didn't get any single downloads until now. I'm getting a lot of single downloads even on websites where I sell 10 times less pictures compared to SS. So I was wondering, how often do you guys get such sales? Or is there any secret I should know concerning this? Are there certain subjects that tend to sell more as single downloads?

Not often enough!  This same question has come up on getting ED/EL's on shutter as well. No magical formulas just what the buyer wants at that particular point in time. Trust me if there was a pattern or a formula to getting SOD's or ED's one of these super smart folks on MSG would have found it and told us - I think? lol.  :)

Not nearly enough either, my monthly downloads are going up but the price per image is going down, hopefully it'll even out over the year.

I was lucky enough to get an EL yesterday. However, that was the first in months.

If you are talking about all non sub sales then the answer is, enough to make nearly 50% more earnings with non sub sales as with sub sales

Single image downloads are about 4% of my total earnings.

Combined OD, EL and Singles, about 40% of my total earnings.

There doesn't appear to be any sort of image that is more likely to be sold as a sub or single download.

I did a big analysis about this in my end of year earnings review: http://www.backyardsilver.com/2013/01/december-earnings-and-review-of-2012-for-stock-photography/

I'll update the shutterstock graph that shows the breakdown between the different sorts of download at the end of this month.

15% single, 45% subs, 40% rest. No pattern in subjects.

Roughly 1 in 500 is an EL, SODs between 4 and 15 bucks a little more frequent

Talking dollars, last month, non-subs were double my sub total. Maybe that's just because I'm Not Suitable for Prime Time Microstock. I might not be subscription-favorable content. Fine with me. One $17 single sale is equal to 50 sub downloads.

I edited your post.  Single downloads essentially make SS better than most other sites in terms of total income.  Without them, well, tabulate .38 cents times 600 or so per month.  Not a lot of doe for me personally.
