Aside from a few HUGE EL and OD  sales, things are as usual.  Would have expected higher DL numbers for November,  but the big sales are boosting the $ totals.

Not here.  Looks like I peaked in October, and it just seems to drift back down, despite uploading.  Disappointing.

Congratulations on the sales! For me it is the opposite in the moment at Shutterstock. It is unbelievable low in the moment!

The month started out well for me but has taken a big downturn the last week and a half.  Not a huge drop in the number of sales, but nearly all just subs lately.

I have seen a 50% decline in sales ever since the last algorithm change.  :( But I haven't uploaded anything new in forever, either. Hopefully they will change that algorithm so I can see sales double again. Seems like every other change, I lose.

November and December are my best months at Shutterstock, and this month is tracking that way. So far, I've had four Enhanced Downloads ($28 each), and three Single Downloads that averaged out to $73 each. Surprisingly, these high dollar downloads were not holiday themed, although a lot of my regular downloads are. I wish others were having as good a month.

Yep, I agree. October was fantastic, November probably (just) on average. Was hoping for more for November, before the Dec & Jan slumps.

Currently in the middle of my best ever run with SS. Mind you, I'm pretty low-volume... I'm talking about 10-12 sales per day as opposed to a more regular 1-4. I'm also 99% editorial so perhaps not a great gauge of how things are going generally.

For me number of sales are not crazy good, but huge SOD downloads are more and more frequent, and my return per download is over $1 nowadays, which is good improvement for SS.

I don't understand the point any more, when people say, they reserve their more interesting shots for Alamy and such, because they  don't want to sell them for $0.38. The truth is, I get more $75-150 sales on Shutterstock  than any kind of sales on Alamy.

Subs as regular. Higher sells at istock indivstock canstock and fotolia. But fotolia with less commission each download. It seems 123rf knows i stopped uploading.. worst agency this month for me. Istock best for me. Got the same regular sales as subs. Never happened to me before.

Good pretty decent earnings this month. Most is from the subs sales of last month at istock. SS for me is going badly this month, hardly any sales there. The rest of the agencies are as always silent as a tomb

All is well in my garden.

SS is the best because they heavily invest in sales, chase the buyers and push for us ALL. It's a serious biz and prof team working on our behalf to sell our files, and I thank them for it.

I always like to look at the IS portfolios of some of those who are stating 'fantastic month'. It does give some sort of sense of balance to see how their sales are there, purely because it's easy to see sellers stats on IS as opposed to other sites. It helps to show what someones definition of 'fantastic sales' actually means.
Here is a selection of sales data for some of those reporting their sales....
100 files sold in a year.
40 files in 2 years.
50 files in 3 years.
1400 in 8 years.
3600 in 7 years.

It is tricky when you don't know the numbers involved. A huge uptick could be a 300% increase from 5 sales per day to 15 sales per day. That could be down to uploading a handful of decent new images rather than something else.

If it's from say 200 to 600 sales a day that is more interesting.

I'm not sure how many people are getting 600 sales a day, that comes out to $4-5 million a year.

I was talking about exclusive sales.  Going by my numbers if I had 600 a day it would be closer to $6 million per year with GI and subs sales.  Just regular sales would be over $7,000 per day.

Sorry, I read their quote as using IStock figures only because they are an easy way to gauge the level of a contributor. Just because they went out of their way to explain that:
"It does give some sort of sense of balance to see how their sales are there, purely because it's easy to see sellers stats on IS as opposed to other sites. It helps to show what someones definition of 'fantastic sales' actually means."

I guess I could be wrong and have mis-read it ?

No, you understood it correctly. I was trying to gauge what a BME or WMY or whatever was reported meant to the person involved, in terms of increased or decreased sales. Was it 1 extra sale per month or many?

It's ok, iStock downloads (at least for exclusives, I don't know whose numbers they were posting) are much different than SS numbers.  Ten sales per day for an exclusive is closer to 150 per day at SS.  So what may look like a small increase at iStock would probably be equal to what someone on SS would call a large increase.  If you don't get a lot of dl's per day going up 2 could be significant for iStock but wouldn't really be much at all at SS.

If you look at the numbers posted in the poll the average SS contributor gets about 23 sales per day which dollar wise that's about 1.5 dls per day for an exclusive.  So a 'huge uptick' could be going from 23 to 35 daily sales which would be just about an extra .5 at iStock.  .5 sales per day doesn't seem like much while going from 23 to 35 would seem like a lot.  Just something to think about when comparing numbers across sites.

LAST month (October) I sold more individual sales than I have since 2011.  Way more than any month in between. BUT they were mostly subs, so my RPD was only .62.  Most months my RPD is around .9 which would have made October a pretty spectacular month!

At the moment my earnings are tied with my July and August earnings.  Nothing to complain about, nothing to brag about :)

Well, if the most successful older images are indeed pushed back on SS searches, many buyers won't waste their time looking for those images through many pages when they can find them quickly on the other sites using the "most downloaded" sort sequence.

YMY for me so far - # of sales is less than usual by about 15-20% and nearly all subs - only positive note is that I added a few new photos/photo-illustrations earlier this month & this week (holiday and scenic travel) and have a few new ones that are selling - big uptick in # of sales this week too after I added the latest batch so hopeful December will be better. Unless I get a sudden run of ELs no hope for this month catching up to average.

I have a small port but my sales #s have been pretty predictable - encouraged that new files are selling & not getting completely lost in the shuffle. Trusty standbys are still selling too e.g. I uploaded 2 new photos of a particular travel landmark of which I have other views that've been online there for a few years, both the old and new versions have been selling this week so old aren't losing their place.  A very broad location search (broad region rather than specific town) by popular brings up 20 pages of content and I have 4 of the old ones on page 1 and 2 more on page 2 - the two new ones are first on the "new" search with the same very broad term and they are followed by a string of stuff that seems unlikely to be what someone punching in that term would be looking for (homes with a "sold" sign in that popular vacation destination) so hopefully this is giving those new ones the edge they need to sell and not get buried in the database.

Very unscientific but I think it's always a combination of good pix and luck that get photos seen. My best from that locale has sold 153 times (more a concept than travel image), and then 2 more are just under 100 each - my total port is only 236 images with lifetime sales under 3,000 on mostly travel and editorial pix - a good day for me is 5-8 sales and a few ELs can influence whether my month there is poor, average or good. My best pix from that locale are not on SS and have been licensed for calendars, travel guides, travelandleisure.com, Coastal Living magazine, and Smithsonian magazine, but my earnings from these "seconds" on SS and the other micros have been worthwhile, though far less than traditional sales, and micro sales alone have covered my costs for two trips there.

November was great and Dec. starts very well as well ;) I expect fat Santa this year!

One fast question here - where can I find history of chosen file, how many times and with what licences it was sold? "Image gallery stats" in beta version doesn't give me all info that I want...

At the top of the "Earnings Summary" page there are links to By Month, 25-A-Day, Enhanced, etc...

Those will list how much money and how many sales each image has made under each different license.

It has been a below average month. Since November 20th I have received mostly sub sales. Last weekend was extremely poor, but I guess that's because of Thanksgiving.

Luckily, one SD saved it, otherwise it would have been a Worst Month since July 2013.
Title: Re: HUGE UPTICK ON SALES

For the thread, I'm my usual very boring, steady dribble of DLs. Hardly changes month to month. Must be tied to my life energy or something?  :) Yes I had an unusual day last month, but it was just most DLs, all subs, not most money. (and I don't count ELs for most money because they are scattered, unlike the other licenses which are more consistent)

About your question. I think most people would love to know the answer. As far as I can see, there is no way to see licenses and DLs by image. Just the total # of times downloaded and total dollars.

If the database doesn't save that, no matter how much SS improves things, it's not stored, it's invisible. They can't show us the daily stats, without that data being generated, but whether they store it in an archive is another different question?

Some smart programmer (for us not them and it's NOT me) could go day by day, for an individual account and read the daily reports and probably analyze by image, and create that report. Save it too, so it's not repeating all the searches to find that.

Example: Every DL shown on the earnings page for a specific date, has this. First is number of DLs, second box is amount (which I struck out), Image ID. Some software could read the ID and Amount, and correlate to the date, it's not going to tell you the license type.

So there's an opportunity for someone to write analysis software. But we'd have to run it ourselves because of the password and ID issues. I'd never do anything that had an auto login or stored IDs.

One fast question here - where can I find history of chosen file, how many times and with what licences it was sold? "Image gallery stats" in beta version doesn't give me all info that I want...

If that was all too complicated... NO

November was my WMY on SS but December has been good  - my handful of new images are all selling, regular sales are rising to normal levels and ELs and a big SOD have made this a good month, without them it would be a decent average month. The number of DLs is back to normal, which is even more heartening than a few large sales since it bodes well for the future.

My large sales were typical travel images and not seasonal, though much of the volume in subs and smaller SODS, ODDs were seasonal images - mostly New Years - old ones from last year and some new ones uploaded in November and earlier this month - so after this week they're gone. January will be the real test. Hope sales keep rising. I shot a bunch of new stuff just for the micros so I'll see how it goes.

I understand the question, why upload to Alamy when SS does better? For me, the reason is that I license a lot of RM and some RF directly for $200-300 a use, so even if those would do well on SS and the other micros, I won't upload even the RF files there.

If someone looked at my iStock portfolio to gauge my sales on SS, it would be ludicrous since I have more sales in an average day on SS than I do in an entire month on iStock.

My port is small but sales are generally pretty consistent for me and I'm really encouraged by how well my new images did, even if they are just seasonal, they still had a lot of competition and my New Years stuff from last year did nicely too. (For me 20+DLs of new images in a month is good -  - I know that's small potatoes to the big guys - my best of the seasonal bunch has 60+ DLs - 7-8 DLs in a day is a "good" one for me - just so you know what "good" means to me in the micro context).

When I started this thread, I experienced 2 Very solid Months. BME would have to be a LOT more on SS But I was very happy regardless and hoped it was a trend and helped my Motivation. Dec started and it went down 50% from Nov. So back to the stomach churning Roller coaster Ride.

I wouldn't judge any sales trends by December.

The last month worse than this December at SS was Feb 2011. It was preceeded by 1 lackluster month and one better than this years average month...   It looks like overall December will be my BMY - but Alamy was the only good performer (and they performed very well).

gathering the figures for december since this is the new year, to me, this is the SS I knew and loved so well from the old school, before all the approval inconsistency, flipping switches, etc started. nov dec reported like finally the big wigs of ss or mr. oringer took back the stern and cleaned house.
needless to say, my sales was a whopper for the past 3 months.

sorry 2 hear from those who had bad or bad-der than worse shrinkage of their earnings,
but looking at the spread of downloaded images, i find that there is a great improvement
from the first time rinderart posted his thread on dissatisfaction with ss.

i like ss now, as i said, back to normal of what makes them #1.
has this anything to do with scott leaving, and having a structural re-organization ?
we won't know, but i like what is going on today.

let's hope this keep going good for us. good show ss.

BMY for me there in December - and a flurry of sales today - a holiday - hope this is a trend we'll see more of.
2014 ended up 23% over 2013 at SS and I only increased my portfolio by 17%; new stuff has been selling lately so hopeful this is a trend that will keep going.

As I pointed out before, stay with professionals and avoid experimental companies who just like to store our media files for their PR stunts, all in attempt to get funding and not do anything afterwards! seriously... it's like a scam of some sort...

SS is the best!

Hmmmm. Never looked at it like that....You may be right. I think 2015 is going to be a very telling Year for Microstock.

Thanks for giving a thoughts to it, Rinderart!

The thing is, when they ask us to submit our hard work to their web sites, we give them a favor/chance to show off, to gather some investment, to improve ... but ask yourself what they actually gave us in return?
Don't forget guys, without our media files loads of agencies simply wouldn't exist.
Sometimes I do wonder when I read all the problems with uploads, what kind of hell buyers must be going through with search, downloads and bad quality files.

Substantial YOY growth but then again I finally decided to pull my finger out in mid 2013 and up the work rate/mix the content.

Yet to do a full analysis - thanks to my GF's secret recipe "punch" served at New Year my head still feels like a tub full of hot lard.... and someone is pulling on my eyeballs with tiny grappling hooks
