Title: I'm in!!! So - any advice for a newbie?
Post by: tomsailor on October 05, 2008, 13:15
On my third attempt - after 0/10 and 4/10 I'm in with 8/10  :)

So can anyone give an SS newbie (but with FT and IS experience) some advice?

My reading of these boards is that at SS you benefit from regular drip feed uploads, but other than that I don't know any tips.

For example, FT basically doesn't take landscapes and IS is very picky over isolations.  What is accepted easily and what sells well at SS?

Also, one of the 2 rejections I had on entry was one of the 4 they said was OK on the previous try!!!  Obviously editors are only human and opinions vary etc etc but is it worth giving this image another go, since it was "accepted" once, or is that really frowned upon?

Anyway, many thanks in advance for any ideas.

definitely resubmit all your previous entries.

SS is very sensitive to noise and focus - many blurry rejects there that most others take.  also, they seem to prefer more saturated images

Congrats on making it!

Would agree that they are fussy on noise and focus and sometimes tight cropping.

Anyway, good luk for many downloads.

The trick (used to be, not sure these days) with SS is to always have 2 or 3 photos in the queue.

You seem to make more sales when you have something new just approved. Not sure why, I think there users trawl the latest images.

It looks like, if you haven't managed to get in this time, your next try was going to be 12/10   ;D
Now seriously. Congratulations on your success! I think you will find that SS is worth it. Try to upload at least 10% (based on our portfolio) a week.
