I had a really crappy July on SS and it is continuing in to August.

I noticed today that my gallery views are much lower than the last time I noticed the graph.

I used to get like 10-20 a day a few weeks ago. It has been at that number since the graph was added. Now it is down to 0-3. Not sure exactly when the change happened but some time in the last month or so. Has anyone else seen this king of drop? Is it now somehow harder for buyers to get to our portfolios than it used to be?

Agreed that sales are down, but I just noticed that gallery views are down by something like 90% in a matter of weeks.

I can't say if it was gradual or overnight because I don't know how to check the history and I don't look regularly. I hadn't noticed that particular aspect and thought it was really weird. It seem too much of a change to be chance. I mean a much more sudden change than the drop in downloads.

I was wondering if there had been a change to how buyers can browse, and whether this could explain some of the sales drop off?

Gallery views down as well!  yes I haven't heard of one single old or high end contributor doing well during the last two months and the fact that nobody from SS comes here like they used to prove they dont really care. They know the money is going elsewhere to new starters and 0.25c members. They rely on thousands of people joining with their portfolios and thats it. I stopped uploading two months back no point at all since new files never get any exposure at all.
I dont know if gallery views matter all that much? even so its a dull picture.

It's a shame that they refuse to interact anymore. It would be great to know if they have changed the interface and if gallery views are down overall across the site.

Never really had gallery views :P maybe a few a week and not every week. Do they reflect anything? My sales are growing through the last few months, just had my BDE yesterday with nice 2 SODs. And gallery views are stuck at zero for a long time;D

It could explain some of the falloff I've had in the last month or so. If people browsing the gallery make up say 10% of my sales...

They redesigned the contributor gallery a few weeks ago and probably broke some of the tracking by accident. Click on one of your images and then click on your contributor name. That part was changed a few weeks ago. I think the views are still there, but they're not getting tracked.

Oh okay thanks.  Did "from the same contributor" or whatever always lead to a limited number of images? I thought it used to lead to our gallery?

I don't think that part has changed. That link only shows up under certain conditions, like if the number of similars exceed what they can display in that section. If that link is shown, it links to your portfolio with only similar images, not the entire portfolio.

If there aren't many similars, like if you have 5 instead of 20 and that section can show all of it, the "See All" link doesn't show up. That's what I know based on my own usage.

This was the old contributor gallery section from a month ago:

http://shaunjeffersphotography.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Screen-Shot-2012-10-21-at-14.50.49.png

If you look at it now, it's a different design. The contributor info was previously on the right hand side. Now it's on the top. And the follow button seem to have disappeared.

So they are following Gettys lead and distancing each of their 'assets' from the contributor that created it.

Another stupid short term decision.   I know a number of designers and most of them like to find artists whose work appeals to them and check first those artists portfolio when they need something.  Saves sometimes hours searching thru the dross in a general search.  And of course was good for us that had a niche or great overall quality to build repeat customers /fans.

could be you were one of the big favourites of those ppl from fb (see the other thread on this).
lots of views, lots of unpaid usage, no dls.

if so, i wouldn't complain, no???

Yeah, I also don't have any views. What's interesting though is, the other day someone downloaded 17 of my photos, same subject, so obviously, he had to check my gallery/port, and stats page didn't show any gallery views for that day.

Lol. I think it is by logged in users. Not people lifting watermarked images. It also corresponds to a drop in sales. I wonder if ss is looking for ways to keep subscribers happy but not encourage them to use too many of their downloads. Maybe buyers were buying more variants of photos from portfolios or buying things just in case. More money for SS less for us.

ah, makes sense too. followers too, i find can be logged-in users looking to clone your work.
initially, i had thought them to be clients bookmarking you to come back and download your work
because it suits their niche usage.
but other ppl tell me , they had followers who clone their port.

Oh, really, and how do they know it's their followers who clone their work since we don't see who the followers are?

On a lot of sites you do or did see who was following you, and in my case there were always more copiers than buyers.  Figures nothing magical or different about SS followers than those on DT or the now defunct IS Creative Network..

I must have had people bookmarking a lot since many of them used to PM me but half the time they could not find the shots they had marked and some wanted to buy high-res files.

Agree thats the way it is and this time it really looks as if its permanent. I know an ex-employee at SS and Wow! not the sort of company I would like to work for. The atmosphere so thick you could cut it with a knife so imagine then how they feel about us supplying their assets.

well said. i initially thought they were buyers, but when you come to think of it,
a buyer searches with keywords as its needs vary. who else would follow you???
has to be someone who is a copycat. i am sure sjlocke or yuri or dolgachov , or any top sellers ,would have tons of followers.

that's another way too, ie. bookmark.
why would anyone follow me?? esp me, when my portfolio is not a niche???
it makes sense to have lots of followers say if you're a specialist of say, antarctica, or ancient artifacts..if you know what i mean..
a specific subject.
but if you're a generic supplier like me , i am like a supermarket...
you won't be following me LOL
