When I was awake in the middle of the night last night I had a thought about SS and what their future plans may be. Not sure why this struck me as being the case, but I have a strong feeling that they are going to go into the POD trade in the near future.

I was wondering what they could need all that stock market capital injection for, along with the new artist individual pages-- something about it just strikes me as right. It is one part of the market Micros don't get a cut of, as artists wouldn't allow a license that allows POD as a rule.

I think it would be a great idea as long as they compensate us well. They have a big library of images for people to use, they can certainly come up with a better interface for the consumer than the competition. What do you think?

Sorry, print on demand, like Zazzle.

Interesting idea. I suppose there must be a reason for the fancy new interface. I'm more inclined to think that SS wants to grab a share of the individual image sales, perhaps following IS down the credit card route, rather than sticking to the 'image packs' they have now.

The IPO money was supposed to be for funding acquisitions and I've always thought that they want to buy either DT or FT, probably the former, to increase their market share. Those are the only two microstock agencies that would require that level of funding to buy.

I believe there is no doubt there, Zazzle does insanely good for many focused contributors, I dont spend there much time, last time was like 6 months ago and I am doing over 100$ per month there

not to mention Fine Art America, they only allow you to upload 25 pictures unless you pay 25$ per year for membership to upload everything you want, many contributors like Sandra Cunningham keep on saying their sales on Facebook and I am talking about daily sales for large amounts not 38 cents

on the other hand DT have tried and failed enormously, I wonder why ;D

I see from Facebook also many people having sales in Redbubble

I thought some of you were interviewed by SS in the last 6 months where they addressed this and other future features  :o

I was interviewed and from the sound of it they simply wanted to keep up with other leading stock sites and how they present their contributors.

Naturally, these days and agent would be smart to make their clients happy. So that's how I understood SS's move to make us happier by allowing us to set up a profile page that may lead buyers directly to us for possible commissioned work etc.

Before buyers had a pretty hard time to find the real identity and web site of any given contributor from SS in order to contact them directly.

Since other agencies offer profile pages with web site links (Twitter, FB bla bla bla) SS figured it's about time to go along with it.

Doesn't sound too ground breaking to me - just a nice move.

POD? I cannot see that happening. If so, then maybe a curated collection of the best stuff that actually looks good on mugs, mousepads and walls.

If you take Zazzle for example, it shows that this can only work without image reviews as lots of people who like POD don't have design skills and their products sometimes look "not so great" (*biting tongue).

It's either open like Zazzle or curated in my view and neither would be something for SS IMO.

It's possible. The idea seems to have failed for the other agencies that have tried it though. I've never been too keen on agencies treating our work like they own it either, so an opt out feature would be a nice gesture if they ever decide to do it.

I have a collection of business cards, don't think they are creative in any way, pretty much its combining a picture with a suitable title and it seems to work

regarding FAA I do have the 25 pictures allowed and not a single sale, that said I am talking about travel oriented ones

How many stock photos are ready for POD?  10%?  The best POD artists have spent a lot of time in photoshop/illustrator from what I can see.  I don't really have anything in my gallery I can see as selling as a poster or a coffee mug.

If you take a closer look at some of the Fotolia API-Partners (like Bilderking, but there are more), you'll see that what they do is more or less POD. Fotolia does not allow POD, but they - IIRC - argued, that a website that allows the enduser to download a single licence of any FT-offered picture and at the same time prints a canvas or wallpaper or something is not offering POD (as every new print leads to a new licence sale).
