Title: I made it, now have questions
Post by: Pixart on March 19, 2007, 00:18
Thanks to the advice on this forum I finally mustered up the courage to submit again and... wow, 10 out of 10 approved.    I won a Noiseware package on Lucky Oliver which must have helped - now I can't believe I ever lived without a good noise reduction program!

So, what do I do now... it seems that some of you guys really have Shutterstock worked out to a science...   Do I submit a big batch initially to get something in my portfolio or is it better to start slow and follow the "small frequent batches" advice.

Feels like I won the lotto getting approved over there.... y'all make it sound like the place to be.

Couple of batches of ten to start, then perhaps a batch of seven or eight every coupla days.

i would do batchs of say 10 and submit once on lot gets reviewed.

Reasons:

If you do a large batch, and the find something the dont like, there is a risk they will look for that in the rest of the photos (eg. once they find noise, they will be really pick on the rest).

If you submit another batch before the last batch is review, it gets added to the previous batch.  this is hand when review times are long as you can submit one photo (as a place holder) and submit the rest when you have time.  Not an issue at the moment as they are turning them around i less than a couple of days.

Doing it over a period of time will also spread out the new photo effect.  So if you have groups of photos (say 10 flowers from different angles - bad example i know), if you submit them all at once, high risk of getting them regected for "too many" but also designers will see them all at once and not download them all.  If they see them over a say 2 month period (I dont know how many photos you have), then they might buy a few.

Note: the first is the main one, plus the chance to avoid the "too many"/"similar photo" rejection.

Thanks for the tips.  I think I now know what to do!

I agree with CJ, although my production in photos is currently very low, so I just submit one picture in one batch.  And after it is reviewed I will upload the next. It usually works.

As suggested.... small batches, often,  works best for me in sales.  Also as some of the folks mentioned,  since I've been doing this, my acceptance percetage is now in the 90's.  Very good for SS.  8) -tom

I'm very pleased with my first day.  19 downloads with only 10 photos!  I'll try to submit again tomorrow - maybe 5 - and see how it goes from there.

But then again... it could just be a good day all around as I even got a download at LO today ;).

I likely would have been rejected again if I hadn't been keeping an eye on everyone's experience here so THANKS again!

Pixart, I am as well very pleased with your first day  ;D
And I want to thank you a lot for your patience with SS  ;D
I just discovered with your images approved, my referal earnings went higher too. And I checked the portfolio of that member and it was you ;D
So thanx a lot for using my referal link :)

Are you serious?  I hope so, that's fabulous.  You know, I first tried I think back in October and I'm positive I found out about Shutterstock on this forum I just couldn't remember exactly how I got there.  Oh, those darn cute penguins.  So, you must have made a whopping $0.75 by today!  Well, I'll try my best to increase that a little bit for you... so I guess that means we are now forever linked together (or until the cookies expire?)!

Yes, that's my boy!  Nice to know that you can trust the referral side of things... I hope it's not restricted to a 6 month deal or something though and here I finally got back around to applying 5 months later!  After first 24 hour results I've been kicking myself wondering why I didn't try again sooner!
