Title: IRS Scam?
Post by: NancyCWalker on September 08, 2016, 12:45
I recieved an email, supposedly from Shutterstock, stating that my W-9 is incorrect. None of my information has changed since 2013 so I'm wondering, is anyone else getting this email? Is it real or a hoax?

I did try to contact SS directly but they don't have a phone number only a web form to fill in and I have no idea how long it will take to get a response.

I haven't had one of those.  Did you recheck the form on their site?  If it is all correct, you could try refilling it out again and resubmit.

I've checked everything. It all looks right to me. I filled it out exactly like it's filled out on the letter from the IRS when the number was issued. It's weird.

If its that long I'm guessing it may have expired? I did get something from Bigstock and reckon its about 3 years since I did it. I NEVER click any links on an email that request information though

I've had to resubmit my W-9 several times over the 12 years I've been doing this, it's routine, they need them to be up-to-date so I suppose they just send out renewal notices periodically to make sure.
