Title: Keyword spamming being rewarded
Post by: kikkerdirk on March 08, 2017, 08:41
Keyword spamming being rewarded

It looks like keyword spamming is being rewarded by the Shutterstock search. If you search under best match, images with a repetition of the search word in the title are pushed up in search. Here for example

https://www.shutterstock.com/search?search_source=base_landing_page&language=en&searchterm=frog&image_type=all (https://www.shutterstock.com/search?search_source=base_landing_page&language=en&searchterm=frog&image_type=all)

Almost every image on teh first page has frog at least two times in the title. This phenomena you can find for other searches too. I thought keyword spamming was not allowed and now it seems to be rewarded!
Something is wrong!

not seeing it, plus the new search tab just shows new images, nothing to do with keyword spamming

and the first few rows i checked had frog only once

I'm not talking about the "new" search tab I'm talking about the "best match" search tab!

Relax - we all know that SS has been doing weird stuff for awhile that is why they are only ranked at 57.3 on the Poll results.

But this image of two frogs screwing each other made my day!  :)

if I search for eye it doesnt show spam titles

For more general searches it doesn't always seem the case but others are clearly in advance when using keyword spamming

This on for example: searching for "black cat" under BEST MATCH search

And there are many more examples! Since the last changes my income has been dropped by 30-40% and this may be one of the reasons!

This might be interesting! I've got a response from support.

"The image search varies from person to person. We actually have a smart program that adapts to the viewers personal aesthetic so the keywords help but in the end they're just a description."

Meaning that you all might be looking at different images than I am when doing a search on Shutterstock. This makes it impossible to claim my statements!

Not really, but I don't care.

"Beautiful Frog, Frog , Tree Frog, Tree frog of Borneo, Tree frog on leaf , Frog of Borneo , Frog with isolated black background , Masked Tree Frog (Rhacophorus Angulirostris)"

If there was a way to report these people I would. On the other hand, I don't really have time to care. Not my worry.
