Having a dilema.
I want to download a vector file from pixabay-free to use in any comercial way, modify it, add some content, and after that submit it to Shutterstock or istock as stock file.

Is this legal?

P.S. sorry for my grammar mistakes, I'm not a native English speaker.

No, maybe Pixabay would allow that kind of use, but Shutterstock only allows 100% own work, no derivatives or anything.

Also, it's better not to try either, because certain images from Pixabay could be stolen or copied. So stay on the safe side, create everything yourself.

110% illegal. Everything you want to do need to be 100% originally from yourself. The microstock industry is a very sensitive and a furious one. You thought you would get away, but eventually you will get caught.

Things that you thought are OK, but are actually not OK includes:
1. see a picture at Google, and you trace it. 100% illegal.
2. see someone have a good idea, copy it almost exactly (since u thought everybody is doing the same). 80% illegal.
3. modifying someone else artwork and upload. (110% illegal).

This way our business is going down the toilet!  I believe the OP is sincere in not knowing the crime thus I blame companies that give our stuff away for free!  >:(

Look at this topic not as a new contributor but as a long term contributor who has problems with copies. There is a forum here called Image Sleuth. Read that for a while and consider what it means for a long time contributor (you eventually and hopefully) who wishes to protect his work/copyright and not have it stolen by some newby that copies or slightly alters your personal income pieces. How will you feel when somebody copies your work and tries to make the money instead of you? Maybe somebody takes your work, that took hours to create, and puts it on Pixabay for free!  http://www.microstockgroup.com/image-sleuth/

pixabay - It`s a company based in Germany. For each image they use not legal from you, you could sue them. You can get several hundreds of for every single image. Why not..

agree on that point, but its easy for such free companies to get away saying that it was uploaded by user and we are only a hosting provider.

You sure? Some of the images shown in the search results are in fact sponsored by Shutterstock, and will take you to the Shutterstock site.

Yes some of my images are there, but they are sponsored by shutterstock and when you click on a picture, it takes you to SS to buy them. Still, I would rather they not be on such a scumbag site at all.

Agree with you. I am a new contributor, I want to develop my skills. My post was a questions related to a discussion on a dinner with other contributor friends. My portfolio is mostly photos....but I found d out t that illustrator is a great program ...developing my skills I can illustrate all my dreams, fantasy's...etc...

I do not agree with solen other contributor work...I do not encourage that ...my question was only a transcription of the discussion with my friends...

Anyway...in a long term, developing and creating a thematic and big portfolio is the key to success..

So, they're partners of SS and presumably also AdobeStock? I checked some obscure subjects I have on iS and happily they're not there, but the ad which popped up said,
"Didn't find the right image on Pixabay?
[AdobeStock logo]
For a limited time, Pixabay users get 30 days of free access to Adobe Stock."

FWIW, I hate these parasite sites too.

Agree on that...see lately how low payments and downloads? Read some post of big contributors dropping IS ND go SS exclusively...seems that for them is a good choice...payments started to grow

Let me put it this way.  If some idiot uploads my images to pixabay, and you download them, and do this, I'll sue you until your ears bleed.

So, don't take the chance.
