Title: money for files
Post by: shank_ali on November 22, 2008, 02:32
Whats the money like on shutterstock.
I am exclusive on istock but just curious.
I get anywhere between 34 cents to $3.40 for a sale and XLsale this week gave me $4.95. Can you get extended licence payments on your files at shutterstock.
Friends and family can't understand why i  have my photos on only one site.

I make a lot more each month with shutterstock but I upload regularly.  Sales fall off if you stop uploading but I find that happens with istock as well.  EL's make $28 and are quite regular.  They now have pay per download as well as subscriptions and the earnings from them are rising.  Here's their earnings schedule page.

And my referral link, if you decide to go for it :)

very low amount of money per file. 0.25$ to be precise, if you are new on SS.

I make consistently four times more than what I do on Istock... Shutterstock is much better for me but exclusivity in Istock is different I guess...

exactly :-)
And you don't make any money at shutterstock as an istock-exclusive you make about 3trillions more than an independent so i would recommend you to stay exclusive  ;) ;D

Yeah, stay exclusive. That's the best way to go. Nothing to see at SS...

 ;)

I am very happy and content just submitting my images to istockphoto. They pay well and the inspectors have been helpful and consistent in viewing my files this past year.
I am not a full time photographer and never will be.If you are then it's quite understandable for those people to showcase their files on as many sites as possible to increase revenue.
Can one become exclusive on SS and if so how much does your sales per file increase?

Hi, Shank!

It would be great to see you on SS!

I heard they give 35 cents after you have sold more than 500 files. I've already sold 331 after joining in the end of July this year (compared to 209 sales after 2 years on iStock). Beware, though, that they have a rigorous entry exam...

Here is my ref link, if you still need it :)
