Hi Everyone!
I've just noticed that SS have changed their Most Popular tab back to Relevant. How do you think this will impact on sales. We were getting used to this change but they've reversed that changed just now.

Your inputs will be helpful for newbies like to understand the impact of this change.

What I see is best selling and latest uploads in place of popular and new.

Same here I wish SS would quit messing around with the site

I believe they started these experiments around mid January and haven't stopped till now. Since then, my sales have been in the toilet.

that's why this sh...t ay after good one...they are falling down down...i f they put best seller and new files...is totally useless to make new files in ss...nobody will search through zillion of   b..it ties to find a good one...they will go best seller and buy the first file in first page....that's why new files don't sell nothing in ss...even today i sold just   files of 2007==...at least stock pay 15% but it selling a lot and especially only new files. folia the same.

Top Picks is what it really was, not Popular, Relevant, or anything else. We've all seen that it has something to do with what they think should be shown first. What it's called doesn't change anything. The label doesn't make any difference, but maybe at least Top Picks is more accurate and honest for what we've seen for years?

I get Popular and New on the contributor pages, Most Popular and Newest on buyer search.

Im from East Europe. I had sales in Europe and Asia, not in America. They are playing with us.
I think it will be at the end: What goes around, comes around.

No one's forcing you to have your work on their site.

And what they label a button, a tab or a link doesn't change where it leads and what it does. It's just a name. Yes the search changes all the time, not to hurt us personally or any of that hogwash but to make the most sales for the company and make the best results for the buyers, so they will download more. It's not about us as an individual.

But I still say the best results for buyers would be clean up the inappropriate keywords and duplicate inch by inch image spamming. That would make the buyers happy and me too.  ;D I'd start by issuing warnings about spammed keywords and give people a month to fix them. If not, start removing images and accounts. Sorry, none of us are indispensable or irreplaceable at this stage. Reminder: 188,996,528 royalty-free stock images / 1,398,139 new stock images added this week

They don't care anymore. IS doesn't care, they accept almost anything, SS doesn't care, neither one does, unless there's some potential legal problem. Adobe is the last one, except the smaller specialty and selective agencies, that actually holds image standards up. Adobe passed IS, remember when IS was the top agency?

The gold rush is over, we're in for the long grind now. The rapid growth and expansion has passed. Competition is flooding the market. New competition, new photos, new illustrations, remember the race to the bottom, where we get less and less for the same number of downloads? We're there. Remember slice of the pie, spreading the same number of sales, over many more people? We're there.

And at the same time the small agencies are slowing down more, and some will be closing. FT sold, BS sold, even TS owned by Getty, a huge collection of agencies they bought, is closing and being merged into iStock. If anyone cares to look at this from a business perspective, marketing, supply vs demand, all this along with the consolidation or mergers at the top, makes perfect sense.

Video is the last frontier for now. Make money while you can.

i completely disagree on stock...
they not accept everything...most of the b...it in ss are not not in stock...sure they lowered the standard, but ss killed any possible standard...go to the forum of ss and see those newbie asking why their images not sell...most have portfolio that i really cannot even imagine how you could only think to upload that stuff....in stock i cannot find so many  garbage photos...

just a search comparison.,,

cheesecake terms..

https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/cheesecake?phrase=cheesecake&sort=best   49,349Images

https://www.shutterstock.com/search?search_source=base_landing_page&language=en&searchterm=cheesecake&image_type=all    112000 images

https://it.fotolia.com/search?k=cheesecake&filters%5Bcontent_type%3Aall%5D=1&search-submit=Ricerca  67.408 images

is not a case that all my new files have visit and practically i'm selling only new files there and every month i grow 30%  , while in ss i grow  yes but thanks to old photos mostly with good position in search engine...the day they mess up with search engine i won't sell anymore cause my new files won't sell.

Not sure what point you were making with the cheesecake search? Ft didn't work for me via your link, but I searched for cheesecake on the ft.com site and all three (iS, SS, Ft) look much of a muchness to me.

However, switching to New on SS gives mostly tiny variations on a few images, which is presumably what you were referring to (when I clicked on your link I got 'popular' which was much more varied)

FWIW, my usual comparison search is Blue Whale. iS's CV should make a much cleaner search, but all three searches, sorted by new, are pretty bad. I have no idea why iS has women in bed sneezing into hankies in a search for Blue Whale (the answer would seem to be deliberate spam, but weird), but there you have it, standards have gone downhill rapidly.

The downside of the CV is that if you search Balaenoptera musculus (recent/new sort), you get a reasonable result on SS, a poorish result on Ft, but iS's CV has mapped 'blue whale' to Balaenoptera musculus, so even the scientific Latin gets you the flu girls, the red bus, the bowls of flowers and all the other irrelevances on iStock.

When set on Popular, not new, SS gives almost identical results to IS and Fotolia. What was your point?  Sorry,  Shade Sue already asked the same question.
