A day ago I activated my SS account so buyers can see my files. Yet still my portfolio shows no files and they are also not showing on the site  ???

Is there a bug on the site ?

Sounds normal. It may take 24 hours for files to be indexed by the servers.

Try looking at your account and NEW and see?

Since you have no link it's hard for anyone else to go look, isn't it? Care to share?

Yes, I can see the new images I had passed today but that's all.

All showing now but some don't show up in search, even when I type in relevant keywords and under NEW. It's strange that when only 4 files were up I got a download but now all 321 are up and not a single download. Even when my initial 10 were passed I got a download before I switched my account off.

Also, when I am on the site browsing images, how do I navigate back to my account ? There is no way of doing this. No link.

I have 'Shutterstock for Contributors' set as my home page on all my computers. When I'm done exploring searches, etc I just click 'Home' to take me back.

Alternatively you can just scroll to the bottom of the page and click on 'Become a contributor'.

If I click on "Home" it just takes me back to Shutterstock for images. Also, my last 4 images to be accepted are not showing in my main catalogue even though they come up in searches.

I meant click on 'Home' as in on your browser, not on the Shutterstock for Subscribers page.

Indexing happens to different functions at different times over a few days. There's no problem with the site that I'm aware of. You just have to be patient. When an image sells for instance it usually takes a further couple of days for that to have an effect on it's sort order position under 'Popular'.

I have noticed a few glitches such as  when I click on the "filter" tool, nothing happens. It doesn't respond as if the page has crashed.

I have also noticed also when using keywords in the filter, it doesn't pick up all the images with those keywords. The missing last 4 images show in the SS for images but not in SS for contributors. This meas I can't add them to my catalog.

This is a bug that has been occurring for a lucky select few at SS on and off for months. Watch to make sure that your new images stay searchable using all of the search options for more than a few days. And if you find images with issues report it in the missing image thread in the bug forum.

Well, so far not good. Just a 0.25c download in 24 hrs with 321 images. This is worse than IS  :'(

If you look at the other threads on leaving exclusivity some people have reported up to an 80% drop in money.  Good luck with it but it might take a long time to make up the loss.

I'm not 100% about this but I think new uploads get an instant boost initially so they have a chance to sell. However, I'm guessing you have been uploading for a while (in a hidden state) so this may mean your uploads are not treated as new.

Also, its the end of the week/weekend.

BUT everyone shouts about how great SS are for sales. They are essential in selling microstock. I understand there will be a drop of income for inde but quite honestly, as my sales on IS are mainly audio with the odd photo here and there I won't really miss anything.

Still on one sale of 0.25 cents. This looks very bad. Even IS has sales at the weekend, albeit only a few.  :-\

Only on here. It's not the message I'm universally getting elsewhere.
Like anywhere else, it depends on your port.
And other, secret, stuff.

Hi Herg,
Sorry to hear about your difficulties, but glad to hear that you have joined us in indie-land.  Doxadigital went through a lot of these same issues when he first started - he wrote quite extensively about it in a thread in a wee forum I had set up for ex iS exclusives.  You can find the link on my blog page (link in my sig below).

Best of luck
Bridget

If I remember correctly he is back as an exclusive now after that didn't work out so well.

It's like "Wey-hey, come and join us at SS, it's wonderful. You will never look back and the streets will be paved with gold." As soon as I manage to get on board it's like....."Oh, didn't you know, it's not that good after all. You should have stayed where you were." Makes me smile  ::)

Yeah, I believe that is the case, though he didn't ever tell me why.  He always said he was just going to try independence for a year to see how it went.  There is no doubt that dropping exclusivity is going to be a tough road initially, it all depends on your driving factors as to how well you will do at it.  Bloody-mindedness and determination also help.

Something I wrote to my Facebook friends recently (many of whom are iS exclusives) was that I think that to be a happy indie it is necessary to be able to truly consider yourself a microstocker.  I think that the introduction of Vetta, E+ etc on iStock have encouraged exclusives to think of themselves as a bit more macro or midstock.  I don't know for sure as Doxadigital didn't ever come back and explain his reasons, but I wonder if part of the problem was that he found it difficult to accept selling his cityscapes in particular for microstock prices.  It can be initially painful to realise that your once-best-selling image has gathered only a couple of bucks in 8 sales at SS, but in time and across all agencies it will start to look a bit healthier.

Good point __ I'm sure that's very true. The average exclusive probably makes $3-4+ per sale wheras as a new independent, at the bottom rung of all other agencies to start with, will probably make $1 or less per sale although on a much higher volume.

Mind you, last month, if I had been exclusive and had earned $3.50 per sale my total earnings would have been less than half what I actually earned. Of course as an exclusive I might have enjoyed better best match positioning but I doubt that that would have more than doubled my earnings.

Much like whistling into the wind, objective advice falls on deaf ears.  Most would much rather listen to those extolling "there is gold in them there hills".
