Like I say I'm only reporting what the comments say I've never signed up so I don't know for sure if buyers are being tricked or just not reading the small print.

Not a good look though 1.2 stars.

Adobe now also 1.2 stars

My roommate is uploading 1000-1500 AI images a day, so far all accepted, I uploaded 40 AI images the day before yesterday, all rejected. I don't understand what is going on with adobe

I'm hoping I'm safe from this as I haven't had an email from SS inviting me to Unlimited, and in my account settings I am opted into 4 things: Image Licensing, Video Licensing, Image Data Licensing, Video Data Licensing, and there are no other options.

Regarding TrustPilot reviews, this is not unique to SS. All stock agencies with free trials get a huge amount of negative reviews from people who never checked the terms and didn't cancel before the trial ran out.

This situation affects all contributors because Shutterstock now prioritizes content available through its Unlimited Download plan. This means that if a contributor isn't part of the plan, their content becomes much less discoverable, even to regular customers. Many occasional buyers may not realize that the default filter now shows only unlimited videos/images, so they might never see the work of contributors who are not participating.

In your case, it appears Shutterstock hasnt given you the option to opt into the plan, which could put you at a disadvantage. Without that choice, your content is automatically excluded from what's displayed by default, preventing you from experimenting or making strategic decisions based on your results.

At least those who have been invited can try both approachesopting in or opting outto see which performs better. Therefore, not having that flexibility might be even less safe, regardless of whether someone ultimately supports the plan or not.

However, I wouldnt worry too much because theres a possibility that after this pilot project is completed, Shutterstock may decide to offer its entire library under the new Unlimited Download plan. This would make logical sense as the next step in their strategy to survive and capture that lucrative market.

I've tried several times to replicate this in a customer-side search but it doesn't occur in my region.

Just tried a search, "unlimited videos only" filter is on by default.

Since it's a "pilot project", SS may not yet have it by default in all regions or devices.

For instance, when I search my iPhone, there are no default filters. However, when I use my laptop, the default filter is already in place. I'm not sure why this would happen, considering the filter is permanent, as confirmed by the support team by email to me a few days ago.

Same here. I just did a search and I don't see the filter. I do, however, see my own work and I'm not part of this 'plan'.

I don't even have the opt in option  :D. Sales have dropped about 50% and earnings about 60%. This is scary for me.

I'm in the same position, and it feels as if many years of work is now being trashed. Sales of content that isn't included is not visible, so only appears if someone switches off the 'unlimited' filter.

I spoke to Shutterstock support about this a week ago, and they said at that time that they were passing on the feedback to the relevant team, but if Shutterstock is now confirming this to be the permanent default position, then it's a disaster for those of us who aren't included.

From a customer point of view, there sems to be confusion as well, as many don't realise that signing up only gives them access to a small selection, and not the full library.
