Has anyone else noticed this? It is now a drop down and you have to manually email shutterstock to get approval prior to resubmitting.

Well that's going to give reviewers a field day ~ reject reject reject ! Unless your image is a pile of crap in which case "accept" as it's no threat to the reviewers port.

Must be some reviewers on here seeing as I got marked down

I would just make corrections to the rejected image and resubmit. Since they don't want to hear any explanations, why give any?

Because if they catch you SS aware you a warning on your account. After three warnings they close your account.

They have effectively made it more difficult for the photographer now, who has to jump through more hoops to get a fair review.

There is no option for making corrections and resubmitting. This is a serious omission from the drop down menu. Everytime I made corrections with a note to the reviewer, it was accepted. I've been doing this for nine years.

Possible Reasons for Receiving Warnings
1. Submitting more than one of the same exact image

2. Keyword spamming (using the same keywords for unrelated images)

3. Frequent miscategorization

4. Large amounts of out-of-focus or noisy photos in a batch

5. Submitting an image that has already been rejected without writing a note to the reviewer explaining why the image(s) is being resubmitted. Resubmitting an image without making the appropriate corrections.

I have received a warning and been a good boy ever since. Dont want to jeopardise my SS earnings over a few mediocre images. The warning felt like the slap in the face I needed.

I've usually made some changes, then resubmitted without a note. It's a new image at that point. It's not just resubmitting the same rejected file. If the new version is rejected, which is rare, I just let it go. I've never gotten a warning. I think warnings are for people who just stubbornly resubmit the same rejected file over and over.

I used the email once on a illustrative editorial when the reviewer rejected it saying the site didn't accept that type of editorial, which it did.

I did resubmit images that I felt were good and didnt deserve a rejection. I have one image rejected 3 times until it got accepted, it has made me over 100$, and SS about 400$. And so I have a few more like that, thats why I fought for an image if I think its good. But I gave it up, too frustrating and time consuming. Not worth losing my SS earnings over.

I think so, too. If you correct a file and resubmit it, it is a new file. If you keep submitting the same old over and over, it's totally different.

If it was tedious for them to read the notes, just how tedious and time consuming it will be to email back and forth.

SS reviewers the fairest that I know but this new "leave us alone" development does not sound good.

If i want to say something to the reviewer ( and I don't mean illustrations made or not on tablet) I must send first a message to [email protected] explaining there what I have to say , than go back to the image, select ''se the folowing case number for specific information about this submission'' insert the ticket number (sended initialy via [email protected]) and after all that send the image for review

What? illustrations without source files are ALL made on tablet?
Mine are made on my desktop in illustrator without any source file, so now i can not submit any more? Good thing i dont really want to give them anything new anyway, this definitely helps me with my decision of not uploading anymore. Seriously cant think of anything more stupid!

That's what i understood. So now if you make illustrations without source files but not on a tablet you have to go through that painful circle to submit.

Thanks, Rimglow, but I am fully aware of the policies, I was asking how often they are followed. Ron answered that question for me. I have resubmiited the occasional rejected image without a note and sometimes they get in and sometimes not. I have also revised and resubmitted with a note and sometimes they got rejected for a different reason, so I'm not convinced that the reviewers ever read the notes anyway. I certainly wouldn't do it again if I got a warning. It sounds like they do notice at least sometimes so it will be wise to be careful.

So I have to get ticket numbers for the files that were just rejected because I forgot to mark as illustrations! Seems an odd step in the wrong direction for SS.

My biggest gripe with notes/resubmissions is when you have an image rejected for composition, you crop, resubmit, explaining with the note you fixed it, and then they reject for lighting.

It seems a bit churlish to say you can't resubmit a corrected version with a note when an image was rejected for poor lighting/white balance. As for composition/focus point or not suitable for editorial....well they usually get me on these and if I absolutely disagree I use submit@shutterstock. I find them very fair and comprehensive in their feedback and much faster than any other agency out there.

I doubt SS would have done this unless the volume of resubmits is proving to be an efficiency cost - and the bean counters will always demand a process change over an increase in headcount to cope. And frankly, if it deters those of our colleagues who will not take no for an answer and resubmit over and over, making reviewers very cross, it might just lead to a fairer more consistent review process for the rest of us.

Anyway, this is a small thing and they really need to work on bigger issues: site performance, knackered uploading, etc, etc.

PS. No comment on illustrations - I stopped submitting any when they made the process too convoluted with attachments of originals/property releases and such

Prior to that post going live, we wanted to address one of the specific concerns regarding the resubmission process. If you received a rejection (pertaining to quality, metadata, releases, etc) and you would like to resubmit a corrected version you are welcome to do that without contacting our support department prior to resubmission. If you are continually receiving rejections that you do not agree with then you should contact support prior to resubmitting any further. Our support department will look into your inquiry and respond accordingly."
