Noticed a new (?) phenomenon.
Visit Signs/Symbols category: https://www.shutterstock.com/category/signs-symbols (https://www.shutterstock.com/category/signs-symbols)
Under "Browse signs and symbols" there are low quality simple sign vectors. When you click any of them it turns out it has HIGH popularity and SUPERSTAR designation. When you click the contributor portfolio, it has about 100 vectors looking the same. How is this not database spamming? It's bad for contributors, and for customers, who are spammed with low quality identical content.

Not new. This came up a few times over the years. The images don't seem to show up in searches and it's very odd that they make it through review.
There has been speculation that SS uses this stuff to pad their collection size/ new image numbers for the shareholders meetings. I don't know what's going on.

Not all have High usage. Some have Medium, some have Low. But these vectors are beyond stupid anyway, and I can't imaging most of them having high sales.
Beyond Stupid is kind, whether we're saying being accepted or the portfolios. One guy has his whole collection, 99 of every design, about 4,000 images. So roughly, without looking at all the pages, 41 designs, all numbered 1-99. I didn't know that could be a SS niche success story with 41 images? :(

You're also right about how they screw up the searches. Bad for buyers as well as artists, because the diversity is ruined by each pack of these. Bangladesh? Wow sure are a lot of generic looking White folks living there, who only have 100 images. ;)
I'm off to make 100 images, all the same, just change the numbers. I'll start at 0 and go to 99. I want to see if they all get accepted. Any bets that they won't? I know they shouldn't.

That one must have flown past QC - what a useful concept! Really a mess. We'd all do better if there wasn't so much useless content clogging up searches.
It's funny, I have some street signs on a highway that get licensed a lot. I originally filled them in using a New Year's concept and when I went to update it the next year, they wouldn't let me since it was "too similar." I argued, "what about clients who can't update themselves?" Nope. I think it's been selling since 2015 so I guess they were right. I should have uploaded a blank one at the same time.
Why do these places get to upload 100s when the rest of us can't even upload 2 similar images? I guess it depends on the reviewer, so inconsistent.
You'd think with the signs they'd say too many similar ones already in the collection too.

You can find similar ports through SS I think the biggest I found was just pool water and 100 pages of images. There are similar if you search for sand or dirt or clouds

It's not just water - that portfolio has over 200 pictures of the same teddy bears on a patch of scrubby grass.

Some look identical at first glance, but are slightly wider/more closeup. There has to be some sort of alternate set of reviewing criteria for these mass-duplication portfolios to get approved.

I wish I could say I am surprised, but SS has been allowing low quality filler for some time - I suppose they think it impresses investors to see growth in the collection size.
The quality of this - totally aside from the repetition - should have resulted in rejections

No one in the UK or US would put the currency symbol after the number, and these items are JPEG so moving things around isn't as easy as with a vector.

Not to mention that I've seen a lot of sale signs over the years, and I've never seen 91% - ever.
And I agree that the ones that say they're trendsetters and superstars likely aren't. It's like those web sites that tell you how many people have bought an item in the last hour or how it's almost sold out - marketing BS.

maybe everything is duplicated because there is a vector and raster version, or maybe there are just 2 of everything because they can.

maybe everything is duplicated because there is a vector and raster version, or maybe there are just 2 of everything because they can.
Yes to both of those, and not the first one.
But from that and what Jo Ann wrote, how does an image that has likely never had a sale get to be a Superstar? This hints that people can game the system by having views, not uses, trigger an increased rating for any image. These have duplicates, copies, variations, maybe someone with multiple accounts and the pretty useless images are all Superstars?

Those three ports are gone. I was curious to know what they looked like. I guess SS are cracking down on spam ports. Though it's odd why reviewers let them in in the first place.

Maybe it is true that SS no longer uses human reviewers but software.
If what is in the pictures does not meet the rejection criteria it will go through.
