Title: Question about SS tier levels
Post by: beketoff on February 26, 2016, 06:23
Hello all,

Just a very general question about SS tier levels. I'm about to hit my first upgrade very soon (>$500) and I was wondering how quickly the new tier level (and, respectively, the new commission levels) enter into force? Immediately? Starting from the following month? Otherwise?

Thanks.

Pretty much immediately. Maybe a few hours, at most a day.

They update once a day and you'll get an email when it happens

Why?

Assuming you value your work and effort and have just a wee bit of dignity is 0.38 acceptable to you? Assuming you reach that sickening tier level of the top. Never understood why anyone would accept that slap in the face.

You do things your way and let other people do things their way without putting them down.  I consistenly get betweeen 700$ and 900$ a month from SS. That is what I look at not the 38c.  At least half of that money is from photos that I uploaded between 4 and 10 years ago.   I have worked very little at stock photography  in the last year and earnings have dropped by a couple of hundred month on SS but still bringing in a very handy amount.  Where else can I get that? ?? ?  As far as I'm concerned the sites are throwing money at me for very little effort at the moment. Yes I would be great if they paid us more but to me it is still easy money.

"You do things your way and let other people do things their way without putting them down." Absolutely the topic of how much we should be paid has been done to death....the guy asked a simple question which was answered...watching people ride their hobbyhorses is getting tedious on this site and people wonder why less people are visiting it.

The way I keep myself from thinking about individual sales is that when I upload a stock image I don't consider the value of it for an individual sale but rather the lifetime potential for that image to make money. So I pay more attention to the fact that over the course of 5-10 years that image may make hundreds or thousands of dollars across multiple sites for as long as it is online. Otherwise, I would drive myself crazy thinking about low individual sales. Stock is a game for the tortoise, not the hare.

I am not putting anyone down, and besides you have already done that to yourself. The difference between you and I is that I will never defend selling my work for a pitiful 0.38c as you have with pride. To each his own as they say. I am only saying that 0.38c as a top tier for a royalty is a kick in the nuts.

Do you mind tell me how many images online you've got?

I currently upload to a 14 sites and have about 3000 images although at some of the newer sites I have much less. A  lot of my older images which still sell consistenly on places like SS would never get through the review process nowadays

I wasn't saying anything with pride, just stating facts.  I have always looked at the bottom line of how much an image makes me not how much each sale brings me. I, like many others have many images that have brought in a lot more money over the years than I could ever have sold it for in an outright sale

I agree except that RPI is sliding so unpredictably at the moment it is more uncertain than ever what the return will be over the long or even medium term. I would say that if you can't make back your costs on an image in 1-2 years it no longer makes sense to invest in it.
