First time I had this happen.. but I don't do a lot of Vectors though. Just seems weird to me. Is it normal to reject the vector but then the raster is good enough?
Vector was rejected for: "Too Simple--Overly simple vector."

Well the rasters probably go to the photo reviewers and they pretty much accept anything(illustrations that is).

Well, I guess I got to make this one more complicated then. How..I don't know. Seeing some simple things that are line drawings with no color get through just makes me wonder. Maybe I could change it into a coloring book vector and eliminate the colors.

This has happened to me before, so you're not alone.
Putting on my critique hat, I'd say the composition is what hurts the illustration for me. The two elements are about the same size and are competing with each other. I'd make the dive flag smaller and maybe a darker red to tone it back. The shark could probably be bigger too. I'd also like to see more of a background. Maybe, just a subtle silo of some coral or plants behind everything. Just something to give the image a little depth and interest.

I agree with cthoman, it would also work if you just focused on the shark itself and the blue sea background...make it bigger and ditch the rest of the elements.
and as for the comment (tongue in cheek) from "stormchaser" they dont take all the vector crap us vector artist submit..some of it gets rejected. ;D

Thanks. I just finished a cartoon fish to add. Just swimming in the scene...nothing special. Should I get rid of the bubbles? Get rid of the up front reef in favor of a subtle silo reef or keep it and add coral silos to the bg? Looking at it, the sign is too big comparatively.
Might add some schools of fish swimming in the bg too.

Hows this? Just a quick edit. Added grasses and the fish and little schools. Made Shark bigger and sign smaller.

I will try that and maybe feather it a little bit and see what happens. Thanks for the help on this. Going to try one more time to get it approved. If it does not make it... moving on.

I resubmitted this one... but the thumbnail I see on the SS page is of the old one. Is that just my cookies messing with me or theirs?

Yeah, but you have to admit some of the stuff is just beyond belief.
BTW the shark is just too cute, and better elements would compliment it nicely.

I am in the strange similar situation right now. They accepted raster file, but rejected vector of this:

First time it was my mistake (it was CS5 EPS), second time it was "already in your port", third time was "too many similar images" and I did wrote the note for the rewiever..hilarious!

I've been having the vector rejected for bitmap but the raster's always make it through. Big stock, Dreamstime, Veer all accepted them. I haven't tried iStock. Could it be because I'm submitting them as EPS8?

I am not sure but I think with EPS 8, the gradients rasterize or something. I am just doing ESP 10 just to make sure all remains vector.

i wonder why it doesn't show up with the rest of the sites. Once I get my broken computer fixed and everything reloaded I guess I ought to resave the .ai files to EPS 10 and see if they fly then.

If you make your illustrations in Illustrator, none of your gradients should rasterize in eps 8. I save all my files in eps 8 and have never had any problems. I've heard that Inkscape rasterrizes gradients, but I don't know a lot about the program. To check for any raster elements, open the links palette in Illustrator.

I use Illustration CS4. The first one was rejected as a BITMAP same thing with the last two, but the last two also said "Text--Please convert text to outlines." Where they got that from I don't quite understand.

Yea...with text you have to convert the fonts to shapes. If I remember correctly... you just right click on the word and convert to shape.

Yeah I understand that, but there is no text in those last two illustrations. Or does it some how read it as text because of the shapes?

it shouldn't do. Make sure that the embed fonts box is unticked when you export the eps in case this is the problem.

When I get my computer up and running and reinstall everything I'll try resaving the them at EPS 10 and make sure I have the embed font's box unchecked and see if they fly that way. If they do then I'll know what the problem was.

Sharkie was rejected for bitmap elements now. Oh well. Just submitted the raster to the other sites then.

That's too bad. I guess that's why I rarely resubmit rejected images. I think they brand them with a scarlet letter or something. :)
