Though it was just me having problems! All good now, but explains the TERRIBLE day of sales perhaps.

Hope it stays stable and selling.

Also for me, very strange but May is down on SS ... it's my 5th agency after IS, FT, 123 and ... Photodune.

That's impressive that they can fix downages so quickly late on a Saturday.

It's a bit easier if everybody doesn't get off on Friday and comes back on Monday.

My point exactly. They seem to realise, as others do not, that they are a 24/7 operation.

That's the smartest thing you've said Wut. I hate the fact that certain agencies keep their shop open over weekends, but leave it virtually unattended. It's better that they close shop too if those in charge want a nice weekend and don't want to pay people to do weekend shifts.

Enthusiastic +1 to all of the above.

They are all 24/7 operations - are there actually some of them that don't have 24/7 technical cover even on an on-call basis with automated monitoring?

There was a time when one in particular would experience problems which would not be dealt with over weekends: particularly noticeable during North American long weekends.
The same one where moderators point out, in reply to forum posts, that HQ won't be open yet, so there's no one to deal with the issue; even in the middle of the European working day. (I believe there is some sort of very basic tech cover, as was revealed a few years back after a severe outage. It seemed there was a very junior techie on duty who discovered the issue but was nervous about waking a senior colleague, so the problem was more prolonged than it need have been.)
The same one which announced on the forums they were all going on holiday over Christmas/New Year, almost inviting the fraud which happened over that period ... I wrote to CR suggesting that they should positively discriminate and employ some militant atheists or people from other religions who wouldn't mind working then. Seems pretty obvious.

Yes indeed.  I'm surprised that certain 24/7 operations don't seem to have fully grasped 'shift work'.

And again... :s

And just when I'm having a great day over there...

The contributor site is up but the selling site is down.

I didn't even know that was possible. Then I'd surely prefer that our site is down. It's not a biggie if you can't upload new stuff for a few hours, but you can loose a lot of sales in the same time period.

fritz

Yes, SS is down but IS is doing much better in the last 2-3 months.
50% more $ than SS with same port size on both sites.

As far as I know they are 2 completely different sites.   I plugged them into the website 'down for everyone or just me' as my computer was  playing up and I wasn't sure if it was just timing out and it said that the submitshutterstock.com was fine and shutterstock.com was down for everyone.

It's not even necessary to call it "shift work". Hire someone in Australia/Japan, someone in Europe/Sth Africa/UK, someone in USA/Canada/Brazil.  you've got most time zones/hemispheres covered and it'll get you through week ends and those pesky religious/public holiday situations.
