Title: Regional sales
Post by: qunamax on November 04, 2020, 12:24
I the recent months I've seen a high number of regional sales, I have a feeling that they did something to algorithms to cause this, like to show buyers from a certain region images from contributors from the same region. Does that make sense? Anyone else notice it? And I'm not talking about region specific images. It could be a sheer luck but still I find it strange.

No I haven't. Doesn't mean it's not true. Could be that you have regionally oriented images and they are featured, while mine are not?

Random when I felt like saving a screen every couple weeks, this year.

Humans tend to see patterns in their mind, where there are no patterns. That's why we are creative, inventive and can visualize. Most animals are mostly instinctive. If I say to you, think of the song, Eleanore Rigby, can you hear it and the lyrics, from memory?

Why do we see a face on the moon or other patterns? Why do humans see constellations? Why do stock artist looking at a map see download patterns, with a limited 20 dot map?  ;)

Can't really say there is any difference. I too see fluctuations in regional sales, and my main selling cluster is Europe. On the other hand, it's normal to see these fluctuations as we have different events and holidays around the world affecting regional sales. In addition, regional sales also depend on the content of your portfolio. I guess my fair chunk of EU-travel related or local editorial images in my portfolio are responsible for having the most sales in European countries.

It's strange cause I'm from Serbia and as you imagine it isn't a particularly developed marketplace for stock images, well until recently it seems.
Maybe they are experimenting with small markets only, who knows, yet it's really strange to me.

And if you missed the tiny part of my reply, in all those words, maybe you're right.  :) I see no reason why localized or regional push for images, wouldn't be a possibility from a marketing standpoint. Also if customers tend to repeat buy images from a specific location, then agencies would put more weight on that area, for those customers.

But no I don't see any blackouts or regional grouping for my images.
