Hi
I have been away from microstock for a few years, now trying to get back into it and enjoying it.
I seem to be having a 50% rejection rate on shutterstock and really surprised its reviewed with in 5 minutes of uploading.
What is your rejection percentage ?

Mine is typically (by batch):

0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 100%, 50%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%,0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 100%, 50%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%,0%, 0%, 0%, 0%, 0%...

or similar. Yeah, it's nuts.

I'm only on photos. In the end, I got back my close to 100% acceptance, however, I need a few resubmissions. So, at the moment, it's typically this:

Commercial:
half of the batch gets accepted on the first submission, I resubmit immediately the rejected ones, half of them get rejected. I resize the remaining ones, most of them are accepted on the third round, I continue resizing the last ones. Usually, in the end, less than 1 out of 30 will remain rejected, and the reason, at that stage, is justified in most cases.

Editorial:
The rejection rate used to be the same as commercial, but it seems they changed something three weeks ago. I have now around a 10% rejection on first round, and applying my resubmission process makes all the pictures accepted.

Either 0 or 100%, more like 100%. For 178 sent maybe 30-40 were accepted... P5 takes everything, AS rejects files that are crappy but I haven't had a single problem with this particullar photoshoot there. So yea...

If you think about it, agencies with millions of images already ought to have high rejection rates. How many more pictures of flowers and pets could they possibly need?

But, there they are, accepting random mediocre images by the hundreds of thousands...

I think they don't know what their policy should be, and each reviewer is just winging it. Rejections depend on who you get.

Couldn't have said the same any better.

But I'd like to add. They should be accepting only the highest quality, new and interesting images. Yeah, then we'll hear the screams over rejections, but why would any agency with 311,000,000 images, "2,060,071 "pretty flower" photos, be looking for more average, common or similar images, to add to their collection?

Some agency besides Adobe is going to catch on and raise the bar for acceptance, including, rejecting nearly identical images that are already in their collection.

Someone will end keyword spam and insist that accurate keywords, are required, with what's actually in the image. Instead of more they will concentrate on better and accurate, maybe 15 words maximum. As a result... Someone will create a search that finds what buyers are actually looking for.

Marketing may make the big ones what they are today, but there's room for a site that respects the buyers time and needs, instead of throwing garbage in with the better works, accepting ordinary, "random mediocre images by the hundreds of thousands" and then expecting the buyer to dig through the morass to find what they need.

Someone is going to do that and leap to the top of buyers preferred sites. Not based on price or the most images, but the best images and the best search. Well I can hope?

If it takes two or three days before reviewing my rejection rate is about 5 %.
If it takes two minutes to review (as it happened three weeks ago) it´s 99% rejection rate.

At the moment it takes several days and now pictures, which were rejected three weeks ago, are ok.

I used to have a rejection rate of probably less than 5%. Suddenly, in the last month or so, it's probably between 50-75%. Fairly frustrating, especially when none of the other agencies are rejecting the same photos.

The last few uploads I sent in, had a lot better percentage ,started using Affinity photo to edit instead of LR and PS .The images that were rejected before were accepted but then it could be just a coincidece time will tell .

hahahaha... i'm already using After Effects CC for photos, instead of LR and PS...can you imagine that?
You can do magics with it and the acceptance rate is 99%.

Where can I find my rejection rate?

If I upload questionable, see if it passes, I do pretty good. Except weekends. If I upload carefully edited images and only the best, refused images are rare. That doesn't stop me from trying to get some past that aren't the best, or if I make a mistake and miss something.

If you don't like the review, upload again. One of the dumbest answers I can think of, but it's true.

Sometimes we get a reviewer who looks at the content and image, instead of what the software tells them. Sometimes a photographer over values their work and doesn't look realistically enough to see, even if something is accepted, it's not likely to ever get a download. So what good does that do? Filler and numbers.

More images does not = more downloads. How many good, useful, images does that.

I got rejected over bad release form but another similar clip was accepted with the same release form.

Rejection reason for all: similars; the last one with the 75% rejection rate was 4 images, all different, but the same concept and similar keywords..just a waste of my time so I don’t bother resubmitting since they are all on Adobe.

I remember when I started, I liked submitting to SS since, unlike Alamy, my only other agency at the time (2009), it was an edited collection and I felt that I was learning to be a better photographer by seeing what was accepted, rejected, and what sold every day. How times have changed.

Just one more reason that AS will pass SS before July. (no I don't mean one day, like today, I mean solid, top place)

Many people will feel like you do, and will just give up, refusing to upload over and over.

I also thought that the reviews from IS and SS where useful for making better shots. Now I'm down to trusting only one and that's Adobe.
