It's crazy, I've just been accepted on SS with a 9/10 score, and these little 9 pics have made 40 DL during the first day !

I know that won't last for months, but I ask myself if that is an usual rate on SS ?

Yeah, I had a great first day also, needed almost a month and 40 more pictures to beat it :D

Congratulations on such great figures.
I made so much on my first month at SS that it took over 6 months and 3x more images to reach that figure again.  Keep uploading regularly and you might be  able to keep them figures up.  Were they photos or vectors?

40 sales, that is just awesome.   Is that with only the first 10 photos too?  I hope it keeps up for you and you just keep growing from here.   Shutterstock is the main reason Istock doesn't have double the exclusives.

Yep, that's a great score for the first day!  I've been submitting for 16 months and I've NEVER had 40 DLs in one day!  :D

Yes, with only the first 9 photos !
I've uploaded 40 more (just accepted), and I'm now feverishly waiting for a tsunami in my download stats  ;)

Unusually good, but not outside the trend of new users getting boosted sales for the first month or two. Same thing happened to me when I joined a year ago. After 2 months, my sales dropped dramatically, and it took about 6 months more to get them back up to that initial level.

Yeah, that's normal, and you shouldn't get overly excited about it. Sure, it's nice to be validated, and 40 DLs over 9 images sounds like a lot, but it's really only $10. And don't start extrapolating, either - as others have said, new portfolios typically experience elevated DLs/image on SS.

True!  I always wondered if buyers say "Hey, here's a new guy with 10 photos on their page.  I'll just get my uploads over with and make this newbie's day."

I also think that if you happen to have a whole series on your first page or two, they will grab several at once.  Soon your port gets diluted and buyers don't dig around as much.

Nonetheless, 40 is pretty great for a first day with 9 photos.

Yep that's business as usual, good score but nothing exceptional.

Unfortunately you'll find out that if you stop uploading your DLs will quickly drop to 0 :(

That's how subscription works.

At best you can expect around 100 DLs/day with 1000 top quality images in your port.  Some get up to 1000 Dls/Day but they have more than 10,000 images ;)

I had about 50 sales per day when I had 100 files online, and today I have 2700 files online, but also about 50 sales per day.....

I'm wondering - may be it is just site itself? Dozen bucks is nothing for SS, but it gets the submitter motivated :)
Got this idea when one of my least marketable images was downloaded on CS with 0 views on the first day there :)

Amen!  My portfolio has tripled, but downloads stay the same.  I have a lot of love for Shutterstock, but I would like to see a search engine tweak to keep older images from dying so fast.

My BDE and 2nd BDE were within the first 5 days of being on the site.  Since then if I were to add up the total weekly earnings each week would be lower than the previous.  I've almost been there two months, last Friday was my first 0 sale day, looks like I'm on track for my 2nd today.  This despite the fact that I upload pictures almost every day and my port is almost 8x as big as it was the first week.  Sales are declining sharply as port size increases (seeing the same trend at FT, each month is a new WME).  If things continue at their current trends, SS will drop below DT for me in about a month in earnings and below IS in two, and I've only been at it 3 months total.

Just for fun...

You made about $1.11 per image over those 24 hours. Now let's say that those earnings stayed consistent, and as your portfolio grew, the earnings grew accordingly. And this applied to everyone, every day, even weekends... $1.11 per image per day, every day.

Andres would make $4.2 million a year from SS alone.

:D
