Title: shutterstock account suspended
Post by: mtkang on October 01, 2011, 01:27
Hi all,

Too bad it happens to me that my shutterstock account is suspended, this is due to the reasons of i had resubmitted the rejected images, and had been receiving warnings (2 warnings last years).

the email was asking me to reply to explain the situations and my shutterstock and bigstock had been disabled after i received the email.

It is my fault but I had tried to email them for the explanations and hope my account will not be closed. However, i didn't able to get any response and my portfolio now is gone..

I wonder what i can do to get back my account? I hope it is only under suspend and will resume it at some time, but so far i failed to get any notice or reply from shutterstock.

anyone can help me?

I would find a phone number, give them a call and grovel a lot.

Who bother doing it at all, when it is against the rules? And keeping on after getting two warnings is really a bit dumb in my view.

Why should they turn a ban into just a third warning if you don't respect them enough to stop wasting their time when they've already pointed out the rules to you twice over?  Sorry, MTKang, but do you really think you deserve to be let off?

Resubmit ONLY with an explanation about corrections and no problem!

I received warning once because same reason and I stopped with that immediately...

I explained to them what is main reason for resubmitting, that was approved status on Bigstock for same images...

I competely agree with Mr Trousers.

If you keep doing something you've officially received warnings not to do (not just once, but twice), why would you think you have any recourse?

It seems to me they couldn't have been fairer.  They gave you two chances.

As Borg said, if you had resubmitted with an explanation, you shouldn't have had any problems because you would have been up front and honest, and in compliance with the rules.

There's no harm in trying to appeal, but I'm sorry to say that I don't fancy your chances.

x2

That rule was my first item on "Never Forget List of MicroStock".. moreover when SS is "trully" cleared about "re-submision rules".

It sounds like you understand why you left them no choice. They couldn't keep giving warnings, at some point they would have to say enough is enough and suspend you. Sorry it happened, but after two warnings.....

Yes I'm afraid that I agree. If they hadn't suspended you then you would have just kept on doing it.  Saying that I hope that it is only a temporary ban to show you that they mean business and that you have learnt from it.

C'mon! a lot of you have been complaining about recent inconsistent SS reviews, weird and nosense rejections... and now you claim that "resubmitting is bad" and that the OP deserved to be kicked off??? so, what do you do when you get that inconsistent reviews? just resign??

Either reprocess and resubmit with a note or (usually) just move on and do something else. There aren't many images that are so special they are your only chance to do something. Resubmitting is against the rules that we all agree to when we sign up, if you don't accept the terms of your contributor agreement then you should, indeed, resign.

OP could specificy "numbers" and "reasons"...

I think 99% of contributors with "mass rejections" do a "selective re-submision batch" with reasons given ( and some changes done ). Same 99% would stop re-submiting after first warning... something that OP haven't done.

I'm against some mass rejections, I re-submit... but most important: I don't flood submission cue  ;D

Not actually that many of us, just a few, and repeatedly.

Resubmitting after being warned more than once not to?  Yeah, that's not just bad, it's asking to be punished.  Which is exactly what happened to the OP.

Personally, I only resubmit when I can see a way to re-edit the rejected images to address the reason for rejection.  I don't resubmit the same edit in hope of getting a different reviewer.  I'll admit to having been tempted once or twice, but decided that my good relationship with Shutterstock is worth more than whatever income those few images might bring in.

Yup, I don't think that anyone would see correcting a problem that has been pointed out be a reviewer and resubmitting the new image as being a bad thing. In fact one of the good things IStock does is have an official mechanism for allowing this. Just resubmitting the same image again is asking for trouble.

Although I am usually very harsh with my criticism on agencies and account suspension, in this case they are right.
You had your warnings. Now you face the consequences.
What I do not like is that they increasingly seem to ignore support requests after removing their phone number from the contributor site.

Really asking for trouble.  Better than average chance someone is reading the posts here where lots of people seem to just re-submit as if it's the first time.  I suspect that they have decided to make an example of someone and you were just the unfortunate one and, futher, the practice will be less widespread after this....

I applaud the OP for coming in and fessing up. That being said, I agree with the others who have said groveling is your best option at his point, ask for one more chance and then NEVER do it again.

Same here. Mostly when people come here and complain, we don't seem to get the whole story. Sometimes, after asking many questions, the whole truth comes out. Sometimes not.

It took guts for mtkang to admit he was in the wrong, and I do side with him on the whole "unable to get ahold of shutterstock" thing. Shame on them for removing their phone number from the site and not answering emails.  :(

Put yourself in the inspector's place.... you get the same image 2 times, 3 times without any change.... who's time and money are you wasting.?. You sure didn't think an inspection cost only once to the agency, didn't you.?..
I seem to remember you can re-submit with a note to reviewer in description field about alterations.

I've sneaked the odd one back through at times as have many of us here but there is no way that I would do it again after a warning and it is sheer stupidity to continue after 2 warnings.

My guess after warning #1 is that your submissions are now getting "special attention".  After a second warning I can guarantee that your submissions are red-flagged.  There is no way that your submissions were "casually identified" as resubmits two times.  So to fotografer's comments, you should have walked a careful path after your first warning.

But... to get a warning you have to resubmit tons of photos, haven't you?? I mean, with 80.000 photos being added every week, do you believe that inspectors remember exactly which photos are resubmissions and which are new ones?? Every inspector have in a day thousands of shots to review, they must be Mr. Memory to remember all the shots rejected and re uploaded. In SS you have the option to delete rejection photos from your account...

I'm pretty sure shutterstock has an automatic image recognition system in place for both rejected and accepted photos (like tineye) so they can easily see if there is duplicates.
