are people better off below the line or is the money just shifting from ss to adobe? nice to have adobe doing well, but my overall earnings are not improving, its like communicating vessels.

You send "earning cap theory" to next level!

haha cool

I wrote Adobe. and said Thats great your doing EL's and all. Then I said...."Wanna Take control Of microstock and Be #1"? All Ya have to do is announce your giving 50% commission to everyone. Then I said why Not. It's Pure profit. You don't have to produce a * thing...You get all your Product for free, Same as Shutterstock who does nothing but exploit our work and walk away with 70%+ I think the time has come to have a serious discussion as to why.
Adobe is already a Much Bigger and much More profitable company Than SS, They could easily in 30 days take complete control of Microstock if they wanted and did this. and giving us 50% right off the top On every sale.........For every Member and stop the stupid High school color, Gold and yellow and green Levels for gods sake.Feels Like being a cheerleader. "Wow, Im gold now" whoopee.
if any company on the Planet can't make a decent Profit of 50% of a product they have nothing to do with producing. Then . with it. I mean seriously. These comments are aimed at all the sites. I would Pay to hear an explanation from any site as to why this can't happen. And I think It's time we Demand an explanation. There is Not one agent,Manager,or company that takes more than 50% of any artist commissions in any segment of the arts.

It's Adobe's for the taking. If they did this, they would be getting ALL of the images and a high percentage of them would be exclusive by default.
They could afford to do this even more because the stock photography side of their business isn't where their profit center is. If they controlled most of the images and sold them primarily through their products it could only solidify their core business.

its like communicating vessels.
It's an interesting concept! Since I can also confirm that although my earnings at FT have caught up with SS since December or January, this is primarily due to the fact that my SS earnings have dropped significantly since December (plus a small increase of sales through FT, to make things equal at the moment).
As for SS sales, they are not picking up despite all the winter holidays, days off, blizzards etc. being over on one hand, and gradual increase of the portfolio on the other hand. Sadly...
-
Fotolia/Adobe is nowhere near SS for me, with around the same amount of images. But it is a nice alternative to have.
-
Only problem is that Adobe is publically traded and we know what kind of behavior that produces.

I couldn't go exclusive with Fotolia immediately, BUT I would be MORE than willing to sign something saying they get 30 days of exclusivity on every single new file I produce in exchange for a fair commission of 50%. Mat, are you reading this?

Yeah, that might be the fly in the ointment. Publicly traded companies aren't generally known for making decisions that benefit their long term at the cost of the short term. If ever though, now is the time to do it.

personally i won't have a problem with adobe crushing shutter but monopolies are never good. just like to know if people see there total income improving with adobe or if the increase offsets shutter decline?
-
Hey Mat, what does Fotolia thinks about the 50% ?
-
There is Not one agent,Manager,or company that takes more than 50% of any artist commissions in any segment of the arts.
as i said before, microstock is similar to music . only Michael Jackson, Beatles, Springstein,..
were paid 50 cts per album they sold. that is the percentage of a top earner for the record company.
the rest made nothing at all. that is why Prince left after literally bankrupting his recording company, so they could cancel his contract before he spend anymore. that, if i read correctly , was how Prince got out of a contract that binds him until 20** .
and local musicians i know, get paid a case of 6 pack for playing at the night clubs and festivals.
it's the name of the game.
a long long long time ago ..in the early 90s, musicians were paid 0.0004 cts per dl for their indie music, on the top music site ....
which wanted indie musicians to thrive. they later told these same musicians who made them
... that now that tori amos, etc have joined them, everyone who is not with a recording label has to pay to stay.
-
Hey Mat, what does Fotolia thinks about the 50% ?
Theres never going back once its taken away
Although i do agree 50% would be a real partnership - they handle marketing, and selling and we supply the images and all the equipment, training, processing work that goes into them
And Adobe would be in a better position to do something like this because selling stock images is a just a piddle in Adobes income stream
-
i see the OP is lost in off topic comments, oh well
-
For 50% I would start uploading again and make all my new work exclusive to Fotolia.
-
Is there any company we could trust to keep such a promise?
The 'crowd favourite' keeps changing; but contributor loyalty has tended to mean next to nothing, historically.
Still, 50% could be a Good Thing; depending on "50% of what?".

red ... so true. many agencies to the right offer much more...
(except)... like you say... xxx% of nothing = 0
-
Also, Dont know about you guys. I was all over FT the Minute Adobe announced. Deposit Photos is Now coming On strong also. Anyone else?
-
I feel shutterstock is an evil and very awful company! I'm so very happy with adobe/FT!
-
rinderart, i really dont get it, you write an email to adobe to give you 50% but you keep bragging about the BIGGEST crook agency in stock world giving you a 3% royalty. cant make this stuff up
-
Hey Mat, what does Fotolia thinks about the 50% ?
50% for highest level exclusive works. Work my way to the top. Incentive not hand out, this isn't charity it's business.
Adobe upped the usage to 500,000 for subs, SS followed. FT added ELs, SS must have caught wind and went percentage. FT changes and SS counters. Who started DPC which drove down SS prices? They are in a financial chess fight and we are the pawns.
We are better off with neither. Face the facts.
-
They should bump everyone to the next royalty level and make the contributors happy for once. It's going to take me 20 years to get to my next level. That's just ridiculous.
-
still wondering, are people better off with adobe increase, i guess from the lack of replies that people are not better off below the line
-
If Adobe gave 50% for exclusive images then they could put the hurt on the rest of the agencies. The rest of the agencies would have to come along or fail as the contributors took material away to Adobe. Perhaps Adobe has the current bankroll to do this where the competition is likely not able. It could be a coup to corner the microstock market.

Adobe decrease, dropped 4,000 places!

And then we'd have to hope they wouldn't drop the rates when they had cornered the market, which seems to be the habit of successive contributor favourites. Of course, they could win-win by raising prices slowly, slowly; but then others might come in to undercut, as always.

NO, I'm not doing better with the adobe acquisition ... One good December and that is all. They emailed me once and asked why I don't upload anymore ... why would I upload my photos to make less money. I'm focusing on alamy RM at the moment.
