I've recently started selling footage through Shutterstock. I am Canadian. Group A2. No taxes should be withheld/applied to earnings, however, my recent payout indicated that $30+ US dollars were deducted. I enquired and the response was that the deductions were applied to footage sales.....This is the only agency that I'm aware of that deducts from A2 contributors for footage sales. Am I wrong? Your response would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's strange. I've never had money withheld for footage sales with SS. I presume the tax form applies to footage as well as stills? I would ask them to look at this again. If people were having tax withheld for footage sales, I'm sure there would be a big tread about it here, so perhaps this is an error?

Thanks sharpshot. I'll ask them to elaborate. I couldn't find anything dealing with the subject on their forums so I appreciate your response. Happy New Year! :D

I found this on Shutterstock's website and I think it clears things up. I'm assuming the reason I'm not taxed with IStock is because they're based in Calgary. Here's the link for anyone interested:

That's interesting. It's a shame Canada doesn't get 0% for stills and footage. Happy New Year.
