Title: Shutterstock domain blocked in Russia for "insulting state symbols"
Post by: Jo Ann Snover on December 03, 2019, 12:22
Several Reuters reports on this. One saying that an illustration of the Russian flag in a pile of poop was the problem :). The legal decision happened November 13th, but it doesn't say when the block started

I wonder if they blocked submit.shutterstock too, that would be more interesting.

I imagine that SS is working along with the Chinese govt to block content, so why not bow down to the Russians too.

Isn't anything promoting LGBTQ+ illegal in Russia too - it seems SS is making a push for that content, I wonder if it is available there also.

Are there any Russian contributors here that were affected? If so, did you use a VPN to get around going to the shutterstock submit site?

Not everyone is affected (depends on internet provider) but yes, Russians use VPN more and more these days. It's not as bad as in China yet but Russia is marching in this direction. And sooner or later VPNs will be blocked too, I believe.
