Title: Shutterstock - downloads of recent images
Post by: steheap on June 01, 2011, 12:56
Shutterstock was always famous for delivering a bump in downloads when a new set of images had been uploaded and approved, which was mainly put down to the option for Buyers to sort images by "most recent" as well as "most popular." I could usually rely on getting a flurry of downloads on my new photos each time I uploaded something new.

Over the past month or two, that pattern seems to have disappeared, at least for me. I am still getting sales of my good popular images, and earnings are about where they were, but new images seem to just vanish into the black hole of their database.

I uploaded a couple of unusual images of carpenter ants, which I thought would be interesting at this time of year, but zero interest in them.(http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/138433/138433,1306783520,1/stock-photo-unusual-macro-shot-of-a-male-winged-carpenter-ant-taken-from-below-when-the-ant-was-resting-on-a-78272980.jpg)

Anyone else notice this on Shutterstock, or is it just my images that are losing their interest!

I can only speak for myself and after checking the SS forums there were some problems with newly approved images not showing up in the portfolio.

Usually when I receive the approval email from SS my images are available in my portfolio within a matter of minutes which is absolutely great.

But the last couple of weeks it appears that many people have been suffering from that bug where the images either didn't show up at all or only sporadically.

I also sent SS support an email but their response was that we contributors should wait up to 72 hours (!) until the new images show up in our portfolio.

That's a bummer because lately I sold images within 10 minutes of being approved.

So this might explain your experience.

It looks like they fixed the issue now. I hope it stays this way...
